Abstract:
A system, related hard disk drive (HDD) and method are disclosed in which a firmware download to the HDD is accomplished by receiving it from the host and storing it to a first region of a disk in the HDD. The value of a download flag is set once the firmware download is complete. After the system performs an OFF/ON power cycle, it checks the value of the download flag and changes a Logical Block Address mapping a second region of a non-user data region of the disk storing a DOS boot program. The firmware download is transferred from the first region to a third region of the disk or a non-volatile memory device following execution of a boot procedure by the host using the DOS boot program.
Abstract:
A lower unit for a glass polishing system includes a support installed to a rotatable turntable, and a carrier having a supporting part for supporting a glass to be polished, and a placing part formed in a surface opposite to the supporting part and fixed and placed to the support.

Abstract:
Disclosed are an apparatus and a method for monitoring a glass plate polishing state. The apparatus may include a location measuring unit for measuring a location on a glass plate being polished by a polishing machine, a current measuring unit for measuring an electric current flowing into the polishing machine, a memory unit for storing a reference value of the electric current flowing into the polishing machine for each polishing location of the glass plate, and a control unit for determining whether a polishing state is faulty, by comparing a value of the electric current measured by the current measuring unit for each polishing location measured by the location measuring unit with a corresponding reference value of the electric current stored in the memory unit for each polishing location.
Abstract:
A hard disk controller includes a track counter which counts the number of times each of a plurality of tracks included in each of a plurality of disks is accessed and a processing unit which compares each of a plurality of count values obtained by the counting performed by the track counter with an access reference value, and backs up data recorded on at least one of the plurality of tracks. The at least one track has a count value equal to or greater than the access reference value from among the plurality of count values.
Abstract:
Methods and devices for managing address mapping information may include writing address mapping recovery information on a user data area of a storage medium in an initially set size unit, the address mapping recovery information being generated in response to a write operation, storing the address mapping recovery information without being written on the storage medium in a non-volatile memory device when an abnormal power off occurs in a storage device, and updating the address mapping information related to the storage device based on the address mapping recovery information stored in the non-volatile memory device and the storage medium when power is applied to the storage device.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatuses for managing read or write errors are disclosed. In one embodiment, a method may comprise receiving a command to perform an operation associated with first data and a first address of a data storage medium, performing the operation at the first address, retrying the operation when the operation did not complete successfully, and storing the first data to a second address when a first threshold is exceeded. In another embodiment, an apparatus may comprise a processor configured to: receive a command to perform an operation associated with first data and a first address of a data storage medium, perform the operation at the first address, retry the operation when the operation did not complete successfully, and store the first data to a second address when a first threshold is exceeded.

Abstract:
An authentication method of an external hard disk drive (HDD) and a recording medium storing the authentication method are provided. The method of authenticating a host system by the HDD accessed by the host system includes receiving authentication information from the host system, determining whether the authentication information received from the host system is identical to authentication information stored in the hard disk drive, and blocking access of the host system to the hard disk drive until the hard disk drive is turned off if it is determined that the authentication information received from the host system is not identical to the authentication information stored in the hard disk drive. Accordingly, since the HDD compares the authentication information (password) received from the host system with the authentication information (password) stored therein and allows the access of the host system only when the two passwords are identical to each other, only the authenticated host system can access the HDD.
