    Abstract: A liquid crystal display is provided which has low power consumption, and which prevents horizontal stripes from occurring without the circuitry becoming more complex. When the write voltage polarity is inverted every plurality of lines, in the n line where the polarity is inverted, the rise in the drain line waveform dulls due to the charging of the drain line. In the nnull1 line, because the drain line has been charged by the writing of the n line, waveform dullness does not occur. A difference between the write states in the two lines causes horizontal stripes. Consequently, the output enable signal is activated at the rise of the clock signal, and the gate line is activated after a predetermined time to start the writing. Therefore, writing is not performed during the period of waveform dullness, and the write state is the same across all scan lines.

    Abstract: A method of fabricating a substrate for a display device prevents the problems occurring in the pattering process of a photosensitive organic material layer, such as the nullstage image transfernull and nullmask image reflectionnull. A photosensitive organic material layer is formed on or over a transparent plate, the layer being divided into a display section and a terminal section located outside the display section. The photosensitive organic material layer has a first thickness in the display section and a second thickness different from the first thickness in the terminal section. The layer is exposed to exposing light in such a way that the layer in the display section is exposed at a first exposure value according to the first thickness and the layer in the terminal section is exposed at a second exposure value according to the second thickness.

    Abstract: Disclosed is a panel assembling process concerning a suitable pattern of seal material interposed between facing substrates which is designed for adopting a liquid crystal injection method. The seal material has two groups. The first group is formed to provide an internal space to be filled with the liquid crystal for display area. The second group is formed around the first group to reinforce it during a panel cutting process.     Abstract: A LCD device prevents image quality degradation caused by the gap non-uniformity in the display region with a simple measure. A TFT substrate and an opposite substrate are coupled to each other with a sealing member in such a way as to form a gap therebetween. A liquid-crystal layer is formed in the gap. Spacers are arranged in the liquid-crystal layer. The TFT substrate has a display region defined to include the pixels and a non-display region formed outside the display region. The non-display region is located between the display region and the sealing member.     Abstract: A display device comprising a light source and having an optical waveguide, a louver, an anisotropic scattering sheet, and a transmissive liquid crystal panel disposed along the path of light emitted from the light source. The light-restricting direction of the louver is tilted at an angle α from the Y-axis direction. The value of the angle α is set so that the arrangement direction of moiré created between the louver and the liquid crystal panel approaches the X-axis direction. A plurality of belt-shaped convex portions extending in the Y-axis direction are formed on the surface of the anisotropic scattering sheet, and are configured so that the scattering direction of the light has anisotropy. Specifically, scattering in the X-axis direction is increased, and scattering in the Y-axis direction is reduced. Moiré can thereby be reduced in a display device having increased directivity of the display.

    Abstract: A lateral electric field type active-matrix addressing liquid crystal display device suppresses the lateral cross talk induced by the coupling capacitances (i.e., the parasitic capacitances) between the drain bus lines and the common bus line corresponding thereto with a simple structure. In each of the pixel electrodes, at least one electrically isolated light-shielding electrode is formed to extend along the drain bus lines that define the pixel electrode near the same drain bus lines. The light-shielding electrode is overlapped with a part of a corresponding one of the pixel electrodes to the pixel region in such a way that an insulating film intervenes between the light-shielding electrode and the part, the part extending along these drain bus lines in the vicinities thereof. The light-shielding electrode may be electrically connected to the corresponding one of the pixel electrodes at a point in the pixel region.
