BACTERIA ARE RENDERED INDISPERSABLE IN AQUEOUS MEDIUM, E.G. AQUEOUS CULTURE FLUID BY MEANS OF A LINEAR FILAMENTARY NON-CHARGED POLYMER PERCIPITANT, PREFERABLY A POLYALKYLENE GLYCOL SUCH AS PEG WITHIN THE PREFERRED MOLECULAR WEIGHT RANGE OF 2,000 TO 3,000. THE INVENTION CAN BE APPLIED TO A WIDE RANGE OF APPLICATIONS IN THE FIELD OF IMMULOGY, PARTICULARLY IN THE MANUFACTURE OF VACCINES. BACTERIAL MATTER CAN BE CONCERNED AS A USEFUL PRODUCT OR REMOVED FROM OTHER SUBSTANCES, E.G. TOXINS TO PURIFY THE LATTER. THUS, I.A. NOVEL VACCINE AGAINST PULPY KIDNEY DISEASE IS PRODUCED, CONTAINING THE IMMUNOLOGICALLY VALUABLE TOXOIDS FREE OF BACTERIA CELLS.
Abstract:
Purification of crystallizable material by directional freezing wherein a molten mass of the material is progressively solidified from a first region in the mass to a second region in the mass; the material is rotated during solidification to subject the material to centrifugal force which is at least equal to the force of gravity, preferably at least ten times the force of gravity, and which acts in a direction transversely to the direction of solidification; and heat is introduced into the molten material to induce convective flow of molten material past the advancing solid-liquid interface in a direction transversely to the direction of solidification, preferably in the same direction as that in which the centrifugal force acts.

A METHOD OF DEFIBRILLATING A HEART, WHICH INCLUDES DEPOLARIZING BY FIRST ELECTRIC PULSE, THOSE HEART MUSCLE FIBRES WHICH ARE IN A RECEPTIVE STATE, AND OF LATER DEPOLARIZING HEART MUSCLE FIBRES BY A SECOND ELECTRICAL PULSE AT A TIME INTERVAL AFTER THE FIRST PULSE, SUFFICIENT TO PERMIT ALL THE HEART MUSCLE FIBRES TO BE SIMULTANEOUSLY IN A RECEPTIVE STATE. THE APPARATUS FOR ENERGY STORAGE CAPACITORS WHICH ARE CHARGED FROM A VARIABLE POWER SUPPLY VIA A CAPACITOR CHARGE AND IMPULSE DISCHARGE INVERTER AND DISCHARGED WHEN DESIRED UNDER THE CONTROL OF A STORED ENERGY MONITOR VIA DAMPING AND SAFETY CIRCUITS TO ENERGIZE ELECTRODES.
