Abstract: A locking system for toolboxes, industrial cabinets and the like includes a push button operator assembly connected by at least one movable link to at least one latch mechanism configured to latchingly engage an associated striker to releasably retain a first structure (such as a closure) on which the striker is mounted in a closed position relative to a second structure (such as a cabinet) on which the locking system is mounted. The push button operator assembly has a button that, when unlocked, can be depressed to move the associated link to unlatch the latch mechanism from the striker, and that, when locked, is inoperable when depressed to move the link. Push button operator assemblies are disclosed that can move their associated links in one of two opposite directions (to accommodate the directions of link movement needed to operate the associated latch mechanisms), and these oppositely acting push button operator assemblies may be combined in a locking system where either can operate all of the latch mechanisms of the system.

Abstract: The invention provides a system and method for unlocking and opening a door or window on a vehicle accessory cap, or a tonneau cover, with the vehicle having an operator, a battery for providing electric power and a vehicle door unlock signal, comprising, a first control module receiving input power from the battery and receiving the vehicle door unlock signal from the vehicle. Upon receiving the vehicle door unlock signal from the vehicle, the first control module sends a switch operable signal to a first switch, and upon activation of the switch by the vehicle operator, the first control module sends a signal to a first latch associated with the cap door or window or tonneau cover to open the cap door or window or tonneau cover. Multiple control modules may be daisy-chained. In one embodiment, the control modules receive input power, but no vehicle door unlock signal.

Abstract: A latch (10,120,200) includes a rotatable jaw (18, 124, 204) that engages and holds a striker (32,128,210) in a latched position. A rotatable pawl (28, 132, 214) in an engaged position is operative to hold the jaw in the latched position. Movement of the pawl to a disengaged position enables the jaw to move to an unlatched position and to disengage the striker. The pawl is movable from the engaged position to the disengaged position through operation of either an electrical actuator (84, 152, 236) or through movement of an actuating end (26, 142, 224) of the pawl by a cable or similar mechanical connector (36, 246).
