摘要: A method of controlling a Forward Error Correction (FEC) operation including: configuring a FEC frame to be transmitted between an OLT and an ONU comprising a FEC frame identifier indicating whether FEC should be performed, data, a first flag indicating that FEC should be performed, and a second flag indicating that the FEC frame is to be FEC encoded; initializing the OLT by disabling a FEC function; determining whether the ONU requires FEC to be performed based on a FEC frame identifier received from the ONU; IPG stretching the FEC frame when the ONU requires to FEC to be performed; and transmitting the FEC frame to the ONU after FEC encoding based on the second flag of an input frame to a PCS sublayer from an upper layer. The method controls an effective operation of a FEC of an ONU and an OLT without changing a Round Trip Time (RTT) according to optical link quality in an EPON. Accordingly, FEC is used only if necessary, thereby simplifying the managing of a link, and preventing an excessive 35% reduction of throughput caused by use of unnecessary FEC.

摘要: An Ethernet switch having a function of expanding a port, apparatus and method for expanding a port are provided. A receiver receives a frame including predetermined port identification information. An information detector detects the predetermined port identification information and a terminal address of a terminal connected to a sub port corresponding to the predetermined port identification information. A storage unit stores an address table including the terminal address and the predetermined port identification information. A reader reads port identification information corresponding to a destination address included in the frame from the address table. A frame transformer adds the read port identification information to the frame. An output unit outputs the frame transformed by the frame transformer to a main port connected to a sub port corresponding to the read port identification information among main ports that can be connected to at least one sub port.

摘要: Provided is a method of monitoring link performance and diagnosing an active link state without interrupting traffic in an Ethernet passive optical network (EPON) while the link is in the active state. The method of monitoring link performance and diagnosing an active link state without interrupting data flow to logic links which are in active states in the EPON, includes: a) allowing an operator of the EPON to select a link performance monitoring function or a link active state diagnosing function; b-1) if the link performance monitoring function is selected, setting a monitoring cycle timer and periodically transmitting a performance information request frame from a local node to a remote node; b-2) if the remote node receives the performance information request frame, collecting corresponding link performance information and transmitting a response frame from the remote node to the local node in a format which is predetermined in accordance with a corresponding frame format; b-3) if the local node receives the response frame from the remote node, analyzing the performance information of the response frame and determining whether the link performance has deteriorated or if a failure has occurred in the local node; b-4) if the deterioration of the link function or the degree of the failure reaches a predetermined threshold, reporting to an upper layer that a failure has occurred.

摘要: A method of controlling data transmission in an Ethernet passive optical network (EPON) and an apparatus thereof are provided. Transmission permission messages using a mode of bandwidth allocation are queued in a queuing unit according to the types of the transmission permission messages. A transmission time duration of upstream data is defined for each of the transmission permission messages queued in the queuing unit. A bandwidth allocation unit generates transmission permission messages to allocate upstream data transmission bandwidth for an optical network unit (ONU), based on the transmission permission messages stored in the storage unit. A scheduler designates the predetermined priority, reads transmission permission messages from queues according to a predetermined priority, determines a transmission start time of upstream data, and outputs the transmission permission messages.

摘要: A method for managing a service bandwidth by a customer port and an EPON system using the same are provided. In order to manage the service bandwidth by a customer, ONU and ONT allocate a service class according to a combination of information about a customer that receives a service, and a service type and a service priority of a service provided to a customer, allocate a bandwidth according to each service class and control a uplink bandwidth or a downlink bandwidth according to a service class. Also, a system manger collects information about a service provider, a service provided from a service provider, a customer that receives a service, and information for classifying a service. After collecting, the system manager provides the collected information to the ONU and the OLT.

摘要: An apparatus and method for checking validity of an 8B/10B code-group are provided. The apparatus for checking validity of an 8B/10B code-group includes a 6B/5B disparity classification unit, a 4B/3B disparity classification unit, an RD6 detection unit, an RD4 detection unit, an 8B/10B code-group rule violation detection unit, an RD error detection unit, and a unit for outputting 8B/10B code-group validity. The apparatus receives an 8B/10B code-group, divides into a least significant 6-bit nibble and a most significant 4-bit nibble, detects a running disparity, and by doing so, determines the validity of a code-group. The apparatus and method for checking validity of an 8B/10B code-group relatively shortens the critical path, which indicates the number of combinational logic circuits that should be operated in a unit time, and therefore the apparatus and method are appropriate to high-speed systems such as gigabit Ethernet systems.

摘要: An apparatus and method for detecting errors in received data and transferring only error-free data in data communications are provided. In the cyclic redundancy check (CRC) verification apparatus and method having a constant delay, irrespective of the length of a received data frame, input and output processing delay of received data is made to be constant. The CRC verification apparatus having constant delay comprises an input control unit which stores the start address of an input data frame in a memory storing the input data frame, and stores a CRC verification result in the start address location; and an output control unit which after a predetermined constant time passes from the start address, reads an input data frame and if the CRC verification result is normal, output the read data frame. The apparatus and method make the time taken for receiving a data frame, constant irrespective of the received data frame, while CRC verification is performed.

摘要: An apparatus and method for providing a security function of frames transmitted between optical network terminals (OLTs) and optical network units (ONUs) in an Ethernet passive optical network (EPON) providing media access control (MAC) services are provided. The apparatus includes: a frame classifier distinguishing the type of a frame, and based on the logical link identifier (LLID) of the distinguished frame, determining whether or not the frame is a security link to which a security function is to be applied; a bypass unit delaying a no-security-function frame so that a processing time for converting the security-function-applied frame classified in the frame classifier into an encrypted frame is the same as a time for processing the no-security-function frame; and a parameter generation unit transmitting in relation to each of the LLIDs, a parameter set value including a security-function-application setting signal used in the encryption, decryption and authentication of the frame, a frame decryption signal, an encryption mode selection signal, and an authentication intensity adjustment signal.
