Abstract:
In a method of simplifying simulation of a wireless communication network, the network may be divided into one or more neighborhoods. A neighborhood may be represented by a given cell to be evaluated and possibly one or more neighbor cells of the given cell. A desired simulation of one or more of the neighborhoods may be implemented in order to evaluate network performance. The neighborhood may be determined as a function of reverse link interference information, path loss information, or on a geographic distance between cells.
Abstract:
A system and method for selecting users of a web-based social network who are likely to respond to an invitation, each of the users having associated profile information is disclosed. The method includes selecting pilot users and a reduced set of keywords from the profile information. The method further includes sending the invitation to the pilot users, receiving responses from the pilot users, and classifying the responses as either positive or negative. A training set of vector pairs is created each vector pair representing a pilot user and including data representing a classified response and training keywords selected from the reduced set of keywords and associated profile information for the pilot user. A function is determined based on the vectors and used to calculate a likelihood that each of one or more users of the web based social network will respond to the invitation.
Abstract:
Techniques for assignment and signaling of the priority information within the scalable video bitstream in a switch-based conferencing system are provided. The assignment of the priority across layers is made that achieves improved user experiences in common use cases, and a signaling scheme is provided that allows the server to efficiently forward the bitstream to each receiver according to its service request and downlink conditions. The impact of uplink bandwidth changes is considered intelligently so that the server can run with very low cost/high capacity, which is important to cloud-based services. Bit fields are defined in the Real-Time Protocol (RTP) extension headers to carry the priority information.
Abstract:
To provide a sponsored story unit, the social networking system receives a story request from an advertiser. The story request specifies properties of content used to generate the sponsored story. When the social networking system stores an object or an action performed on an object, properties associated with, and describing, the object or the action are also stored. For example, properties of an object include an object type, an object identifier, metadata describing the object or other suitable information. The social networking system identifies actions or objects associated with users connected to a viewing user having one or more properties included in a story request. A sponsored story is generated from the identified actions or objects and presented to a viewing user.
Abstract:
A text content summary is created from speech content. A focus more signal is issued by a user while receiving the speech content. The focus more signal is associated with a time window, and the time window is associated with a part of the speech content. It is determined whether to use the part of the speech content associated with the time window to generate a text content summary based on a number of the focus more signals that are associated with the time window. The user may express relative significance to different portions of speech content, so as to generate a personal text content summary.
Abstract:
A social networking system generates socially-relevant stories for a user based on other users (e.g., based on actions taken by other users) to whom the user is connected. These socially-relevant stories, including news stories, social advertisements, etc., may be presented on a web page within a domain of an external system that is different from the domain of the social networking system. When a web page from an external system is requested for a viewing user, the social content about other users who are connected to the viewing user may be provided by the social networking system for that viewing user. This personalized social content may be presented in a frame (e.g., an iframe) of the external web page rendered and provided for display to the viewing user.
Abstract:
As a user of a social networking system views a page that includes information provided by the system, certain types of social interactions are monitored. If an interaction monitored for is detected, at least one recommendation unit is identified to present to user on the page. The recommendation unit is identified based on a description of the interaction. The recommendation unit suggests that the user perform a social interaction in the social networking system. The recommendation unit is transmitted to a device of the user and is presented to the user on the page without having to reload the entire page.
Abstract:
A social networking system displays a story about an object to a user accessing a page associated with the object and determines whether the user is authorized to promote the object. If the user is authorized to promote the object, a promote option is displayed next to a story about the object included in the page, which may comprise a newsfeed of stories on the page. After accessing the promote option for a particular story, the user is prompted to provide data specifying how the story associated with the accessed promote option is to be distributed to other users. For example, a promotion interface is displayed to the user for providing data such as targeting criteria, bid amounts, and budget. The result generates a request for a sponsored story, which may then be displayed to other users of the social networking system in accordance with the request.
Abstract:
Embodiments of the present invention relate to a method for activating virtual machines in a virtual solution, including: for each virtual machine, activating activation items in a first activation item set independently of other virtual machines; and for at least one virtual machine, activating activation items in a second activation item set in coordination with activation of activation items of at least another virtual machine. There is further provided an apparatus for activating virtual machines in a virtual solution, including: a first activator for activating, for each virtual machine, activation items in a first activation item set independently of other virtual machines; and a second activator for activating, for at least one virtual machine, activation items in a second activation item set in coordination with activation of activation items of at least another virtual machine.
Abstract:
In one embodiment, a method includes receiving sponsor specifications designating story characteristics; monitoring an organic activity stream for entries matching the story characteristics; and, in response to identifying an entry as matching the story characteristics, providing for display the entry in a predetermined area of a web page.
