Abstract:
Methods for producing forged products and other worked products are disclosed. In one embodiment, a method comprises using additive manufacturing to produce a metal shaped-preform and, after the using step, forging the metal shaped-preform into a final forged product. The final forged product may optionally be annealed.
Abstract:
An automobile component including an aluminum alloy product having a base aluminum alloy layer and a first additional aluminum alloy layer disposed directly on the base layer. The base aluminum alloy layer includes 2.0 to 22 wt. % zinc and the zinc is a predominate alloying element of the base layer other than aluminum and the first additional aluminum alloy layer includes 0.20 to 8.0 wt. % magnesium and the magnesium is a predominate alloying element of the first additional aluminum alloy layer other than aluminum. The automobile component may include outer panel sections, high form inner sections, reinforcement sections, crash sections, large flat panel sections, and high strength sections and, when tested in a static axial crush test, a peak load of the automobile component increases at least 20% when compared to alloy 6014 in the T6 temper.

Abstract:
New 2xxx aluminum lithium alloys are disclosed. The aluminum alloys include 3.5-4.4 wt. % Cu, 0.45-0.75 wt. % Mg, 0.45-0.75 wt. % Zn, 0.65-1.15 wt. % Li, 0.1-1.0 wt. % Ag, 0.05-0.50 wt. % of at least one grain structure control element, up to 1.0 wt. % Mn, up to 0.15 wt. % Ti, up to 0.12 wt. % Si, up to 0.15 wt. % Fe, up to 0.10 wt. % of any other element, with the total of these other elements not exceeding 0.35 wt. %, the balance being aluminum.

Abstract:
The present application discloses wrought 2xxx Al—Li alloy products that are work insensitive. The wrought aluminum alloy products generally include from about 2.75 wt. % to about 5.0 wt. % Cu, from about 0.2 wt. % to about 0.8 wt. % Mg, where the ratio of copper-to-magnesium ratio (Cu/Mg) in the aluminum alloy is in the range of from about 6.1 to about 17, from about 0.1 wt. % to 1.10 wt. % Li, from about 0.3 wt. % to about 2.0 wt. % Ag, from 0.50 wt. % to about 1.5 wt. % Zn, up to about 1.0 wt. % Mn, the balance being aluminum, optional incidental elements, and impurities. The wrought aluminum alloy products may realize a low strength differential and in a short aging time due to their work insensitive nature.
Abstract:
New 5xxx-lithium aluminum alloys and related products are disclosed. The new 5xxx-lithium aluminum alloy may contain from 3.75 to 5.0 wt. % Mg, from 1.6 to 2.3 wt. % Li, and from 0.50 to 2.5 wt. % Zn, among others.
Abstract:
High strength forged aluminum alloys and methods for producing the same are disclosed. The forged aluminum alloy products may have grains having a high aspect ratio in at least two planes, generally the L-ST and the LT-ST planes. The forged aluminum alloy products may also have a high amount of texture. The forged products may realize increased strength relative to conventionally prepared forged products of comparable product form, composition and temper.
