    Abstract: A fault detection system for a machine having a plurality of electrical conducting elements insulated from a frame ground of the machine is disclosed. The fault detection system may include a high voltage DC power source, a positive high voltage bus connected to a positive terminal of the high voltage DC power source and providing high voltage electrical power to the plurality of electrical conducting elements, and a negative high voltage bus connected to a negative terminal of the high voltage DC power source and returning high voltage electrical power from the plurality of electrical conducting elements. At least one of the positive and negative high voltage buses may be selectively connected through a plurality of switches to plural zones of the electrical conducting elements, with each of the plural zones being electrically connected in parallel, and selectively connected to the high voltage DC power source by one of the plurality of switches. A low voltage DC power source may be configured to form part of a leakage current detector selectively connected through each of the plurality of switches to each of the plural zones for detecting leakage current between an electrical conducting element and the frame ground.

    Abstract: A control system for a rotary electric machine includes a controller configured to generate dynamic input current data based upon a dynamic analysis of self flux data, mutual flux data, and saturation scaling factor data. Upon generating a torque request, the controller is configured to determine a desired electrical input based upon the dynamic input current data to generate the desired output torque. The desired electrical input includes a magnitude and duration of an electrical pulse and a desired angular position of the rotor of the rotary electric machine relative to the stator of the machine. The controller determines an angular position of the rotor and generates an operating command to generate the desired electrical input at the desired angular position of the rotor to propel the rotary electric machine and generate the desired output torque. A rotary electric machine and method of operating same are provided.

    Abstract: A control system for controlling operation of a drive motor includes an input device for providing a command signal that is indicative of a desired speed and direction of rotation of the drive motor. A sensor is associated with the drive motor and adapted to provide a sensor signal indicative of current rotational speed of the drive motor. A controller receives the command signal, and determine whether the command signal is indicative of a desired zero speed to be associated with the drive motor. The controller also receives the sensor signal, and determine whether the current rotational speed of the drive motor is within a pre-defined range of difference from the desired zero speed. The controller then generates a de-rated torque command signal having a reduced gain factor, and reduce the current rotational speed of the drive motor based on the de-rated torque command signal.

    Abstract: A control system is provided for an electric machine having a rotor and a stator. The control system has a converter circuit in electrical communication with the stator and a controller in electrical communication with the converter circuit. The controller is configured to receive a first signal indicating a torque applied to or output by the rotor and receive a second signal indicating a rotational speed of the rotor. The controller is also configured to determine at least one characteristic of a pulse signal based on at least one of the first or second signal. The controller is also configured to inject the pulse signal into one or more phases of the stator via the converter circuit according to the determined at least one characteristic. The controller is also configured to determine a position of the rotor based on the injected pulse signal.

    Abstract: A steering control system is disclosed for use with a machine. The steering control system may have left and right motors, at least one input device configured to generate first and second signals indicative of desired speed and desired steering, a left speed sensor configured to generate a third signal, and a right speed sensor configured to generate a fourth signal. The steering control system may further have a controller configured to determine a difference between desired and actual steering based on the second, third, and fourth signals, to determine a steering command change that should be implemented based on the difference, and to determine a gain based on the second signal. The controller may also be configured to adjust the steering command change as a function of the gain, and to selectively apply the adjusted steering command change to one of the left and right motors.
