Abstract: The present disclosure generally relates to systems and methods for operating a fuel cell system including operating a fuel cell comprising a membrane electrode assembly, dynamically operating an air handling system comprising an air compressor which controls stack pressure and air flow in the fuel cell stack system, determining a parasitic loss in the fuel cell system based on the air handling system, and operating the fuel cell system in transient conditions based on a transient system curve. The transient system curve may be based on a relationship between the stack pressure and stack temperature, and the parasitic loss.
