Abstract: A method of forming the body portion of a three-dimensional object from a polymerizable liquid by the process of continuous liquid interface printing is described. The body portion has a plurality of contiguous segments, and the process includes advancing a carrier for the object away from a build surface while irradiating a build region between the carrier and build surface in a pattern of advancing and irradiating defined by an operating mode. In the present invention, the operating mode is changed at least once during the formation of the body portion for different contiguous segments of the body portion.

Abstract: A method of making a composite article comprised of a first component (10) and a second component (30) includes (a) providing a first component (10) and an optically transparent member (22) having a build surface with the first component having a first three-dimensional interfacing segment formed thereon; (b) immersing the first three-dimensional interfacing segment in polymerizable liquid (21); (c) forming an intermediate object by irradiating a build region with light through an optically transparent member and also advancing the first three-dimensional component and the build surface away from one another to form from the polymerizable liquid (21) a second component (30) on said first three-dimensional interfacing segment, with the second component including a second three-dimensional interfacing segment in contact with the first three-dimensional interfacing segment; then (d) optionally washing the intermediate; and then (e) further solidifying the second three-dimensional component (30) on said first three-dimensional component (10) to form said composite article.

Abstract: A method and an apparatus of forming a three-dimensional object includes providing a carrier and an optically transparent member having a build surface. The carrier and the build surface define a build region therebetween. The method further includes filling said build region with a polymerizable liquid; continuously or intermittently irradiating said build region with light through said optically transparent member to form a solid polymer from said polymerizable liquid; applying a reduced pressure and/or polymer inhibitor-enriched gas to the polymerizable liquid through the optically transparent member to thereby reduce a gas content of the polymerizable liquid; and continuously or intermittently advancing (e.g., sequentially or concurrently with said irradiating step) said carrier away from said build surface to form said three-dimensional object from said solid polymer.

Abstract: A method of forming a three-dimensional object, is carried out by: providing a carrier and an optically transparent member having a build surface, the carrier and the build surface defining a build region therebetween; filling the build region with a polymerizable liquid, intermittently irradiating the build region with light through the optically transparent member to form a solid polymer from the polymerizable liquid, and continuously or intermittently advancing the carrier away from the build surface to form the three-dimensional object from the solid polymer. In some embodiments, the filling, irradiating, and/or advancing steps are carried out while also concurrently: (i) continuously maintaining a dead zone of polymerizable liquid in contact with the build surface, and (ii) continuously maintaining a gradient of polymerization zone between the dead zone and the solid polymer and in contact with each thereof, the gradient of polymerization zone comprising the polymerizable liquid in partially cured form.
