摘要: A pulse oximeter sensor with a light source optimized for low oxygen saturation ranges and for maximizing the immunity to perturbation induced artifact. Preferably, a red and an infrared light source are used, with the red light source having a mean wavelength between 700-790 nm. The infrared light source can have a mean wavelength as in prior art devices used on patients with high saturation. The sensor of the present invention is further optimized by arranging the spacing between the light emitter and light detectors to minimize the sensitivity to perturbation induced artifact. The present invention optimizes the chosen wavelengths to achieve a closer matching of the absorption and scattering coefficient products for the red and IR light sources. This optimization gives robust readings in the presence of perturbation artifacts including force variations, tissue variations and variations in the oxygen saturation itself.

摘要: A method and apparatus for controlling alarms in a medical diagnostic apparatus where an alarm is generated when a measured value for a physiological parameter is outside a specified range. The method continuously calculates a baseline value, and establishes dynamic thresholds that are related to and continuously track the baseline value. The method determines the amount of time the measured value is past the dynamic threshold, and the amount by which the threshold is passed. Alarms are triggered based upon a combination of the amount of time and the amount by which the threshold is passed. Preferably, the combination is an integral or some function of an integral.

摘要: Apparatus and method for the monitoring of physiological parameters of a patient through the use of optical systems which do not require direct physical contact with the patient. The method and apparatus relate primarily to pulse oximetry for monitoring of pulse rate and arterial blood oxygen saturation. However, the apparatus and method of this invention are applicable to any form of optical detection of the physiological parameters in which light of any wavelength, visible or invisible, is directed from a remote instrument into a patient at a first imaging site, and subsequently collected at a second site spaced from the first site.

摘要: The present invention utilizes at least three wavelengths of electromagnetic radiation for determining a blood constituent, such as arterial oxygen saturation, in a patient. The detected radiation scattered by the tissue of the patient is analyzed in a manner that compensates for variations in the detected radiation caused by differences in the scattering of the radiation at different wavelengths. In particular, a result is determined which is equivalent to the sum of a first blood constituent estimate using a first pair of the detected signals, and the difference between the first blood constituent estimate and a second blood constituent estimate, using a different pair of wavelengths, with the difference being multiplied by a multiplicative factor.

摘要: A method and apparatus for a simple pulse oximeter measurement of an area of the body with a small amount of blood vessels by using a counterirritant to profuse the blood and then apply a modern oximeter probe is disclosed. The counterirritant is either applied to the skin immediately before attaching the probe, or, preferably, is contained in an adhesive pad which couples the probe to the skin.
