摘要:
A system for direct injection of selected, narrow bandwidth thermal-infrared (IR) radiation or energy into articles for a wide range of processing purposes is provided. The irradiation wavelengths are selected according to the specific absorption band characteristics of the target entity to create the desired efficiency of thermal transfer. The applications of the invention may include heating, raising or maintaining the temperature of articles, or stimulating a target item in a range of different industrial, medical, consumer, or commercial circumstances. The system is especially applicable to operations that require or benefit from the ability to irradiate at specifically selected mid-infrared wavelengths or to pulse or inject the radiation. The system is particularly advantageous when functioning at higher speeds and in a non-contact environment with the target.

A method for fitting and designing an ophthalmic lens for a presbyope that yields improved visual acuity in general, and takes into account individual fitting characteristics. More specifically, a method for fitting and designing a contact or intraocular lens which takes into account material properties of the lens by observing the “print through” associated with the lens as an indicator of the topography of the lens. The term “print through” is used to refer to any change in lens topography on the front surface of the lens as a result of changes in topography on the back surface of the lens. If a significant amount of “print through” is observed, this generally indicates that the multifocal function of the lens is properly being performed. In such a situation, the clinician can then adjust the add power to the desired level. If there is not a significant amount of “print through”, this generally indicates that the multifocal function of the lens is not properly being performed. In this latter situation, by observing the reduced “print through” associated with such a lens, the clinician can instead bias one lens of a lens pair for distance power and the other lens of a lens pair for near power. Alternatively, each lens of the lens pair can be biased for some combination of distance power and near power.

The invention provides correction of wavefront aberrations of the eye that take into account fluctuations in the aberrations due to biophysical rhythms. Correction is provided for an intermediate value of these fluctuations of the wavefront aberrations. This intermediate value is determined by extrapolating a wavefront measurement to predict the overall variation. The final correction is determined using a weighting scheme derived from the clinical comparisons of the frequency and amplitude components of the variations.

A gonioscopic lens system which provides a real image of the anterior chamber angle of a patient's eye. The lens system includes a first lens group having a concave posterior surface configured to be placed on a patient's eye, a second lens group optically aligned with the first lens group; and a stop positioned between the first and second lens groups. An achromatic gonioscopic lens system which provides a real image of the anterior chamber angle of a patient's eye is also provided, as well as an ophthalmoscopy lens system for viewing both the anterior chamber angle and the retina of a patient's eye.

An arrangement for measuring desired parameters of a contact lens by optical sectioning which comprises a support fixture on which a contact lens is positioned. The support fixture includes a container in which a pedestal is positioned, and the container is filled with a saline solution. The contact lens is placed on the pedestal completely immersed in the saline solution. A line of light is generated and directed by imaging and shaping optical elements over the edge of the container and through a selected diameter of the contact lens. An imaging camera detects and image of the light scattered at the surfaces of the contact lens at the selected diameter, which is captured by a frame grabber and is digitally stored for subsequent image processing and determination of the desired parameters of the contact lens. The analysis provides at least four basic parameters of the contact lens including the diameter (D), front radius of curvature (FC), back radius of curvature (BC), and center thickness (CT), and can also provide the lenticular curve radius, the peripheral curve radius, the sagittal height, aspherical forms and deviations of the several measured curvatures, and the power of the lens.
