    摘要: Equipment for patenting steel wires, comprising preheating and patenting tanks for processing the wires along substantially horizontal and straight-line paths, an electrical potential being applied to end plates in at least some tank sections, the plates having notches at points of intersection with the wire paths, the wires being passed under respective levels of the baths in the tanks; through the notches, the paths being beneath upper edges of the end plates but above lowest points of the notches, the levels of the baths being kept above planes defined by the wire paths. Among optional features, pull is imparted to sections of the wires that exit from the patenting tank at a higher speed than to sections entering the preheating tank, thereby to reduce the cross-sections of the resulting steel wires without the application of dies and the like.

    摘要: A protective arrangement operating in conjunction with a multiplexing system adapted to convey data from a plurality of low-impedance analog sensors to a central digital receiving terminal. Each sensor is coupled by an input line through a noise-rejection filter that includes a capacitor connected across the line to a commutator serving to sequentially sample analog data derived from the sensors and to apply the samples to an analog-to-digital converter. The protective arrangement functions to detect the occurrence of an open circuit in any one of the sensors and to produce an indication of this abnormal condition, the arrangement including a like plurality of photon-couplers, one for each sensor. The light-emitting diode of each photon-coupler is energized by a power source common to all sensor circuits. The light emitted by the diode is intercepted by a photo-transistor connected through resistors of high value across the related sensor input line to define a network generating a small offset-current. Under normal conditions, the low-impedance sensor shunted across the high-impedance network renders the offset current ineffective; but should an open-circuit occur, the offset current then serves to charge the capacitor of the filter to a high level with a polarity opposed to the normal polarity established thereacross by the sensor. As a consequence, the digital value produced by the converter in response to the sample taken from the open-circuited sensor has an abnormal level well outside the valid range, thereby providing an indication of the abnormal condition.

    摘要: A CDN edge server is configured to provide one or more extended content delivery features on a domain-specific, customer-specific basis, preferably using configuration files that are distributed to the edge servers using a configuration system. A given configuration file includes a set of content handling rules and directives that facilitate one or more advanced content handling features, such as content prefetching. When prefetching is enabled, the edge server retrieves objects embedded in pages (normally HTML content) at the same time it serves the page to the browser rather than waiting for the browser's request for these objects. This can significantly decrease the overall rendering time of the page and improve the user experience of a Web site. Using a set of metadata tags, prefetching can be applied to either cacheable or uncacheable content. When prefetching is used for cacheable content, and the object to be prefetched is already in cache, the object is moved from disk into memory so that it is ready to be served. When prefetching is used for uncacheable content, preferably the retrieved objects are uniquely associated with the client browser request that triggered the prefetch so that these objects cannot be served to a different end user. By applying metadata in the configuration file, prefetching can be combined with tiered distribution and other edge server configuration options to further improve the speed of delivery and/or to protect the origin server from bursts of prefetching requests.

For a given content provider, a determination is first made whether the content provider has “cold content” delivery requirements by evaluating one or more factors that include: total content size, size of content objects expected to be served, uniqueness of content, total number of content objects, and a percentage of the total content size that is expected to account for a given percentage of traffic. Upon a determination that the content provider has cold content delivery requirements, a subset of the CDN content servers are configured to implement a set of one or handling rules for managing delivery of the cold content from the CDN content servers.
