    Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes: a rotating body; a sprocket provided coaxially with the rotating body, the sprocket being configured to rotate integrally with the rotating body; a chain including a holder configured to hold a leading end portion of a recording medium, the chain being wound on the sprocket, the chain being configured to rotate so as to transport the recording medium; an annular shaped transfer belt supported by an opposing member opposing the rotating body at an opposing position, the transfer belt being configured to sandwich the recording medium transported by the chain between the transfer belt and the rotating body at the opposing position, in which an image on an outer peripheral surface of the transfer belt is transferred to the recording medium in response to a transfer bias being applied between the rotating body and the opposing member; and a forming member that supports the transfer belt on an upstream side of the opposing position in a transport direction, the forming member being configured to form a contact region in which the transfer belt is brought into contact with the rotating body on the upstream side of the opposing position in the transport direction.

    Abstract: A transfer device includes: an annular transfer belt including an outer surface, a toner image being transferred to the outer surface of the annular transfer belt; a transfer unit including a transfer cylinder; and a facing roller member that is in contact with an inner surface of the transfer belt, in which the transfer cylinder includes a base material, and a surface layer wound around an outer circumference of the base material, the surface layer being replaceable with respect to the base material, the transfer cylinder has a transfer region where the toner image is transferred from the transfer belt to a recording medium in a state where the recording medium is sandwiched between the transfer cylinder and the outer surface of the transfer belt, the surface layer includes an elastic layer, the surface layer has a thickness of 6.0 mm or more and 10 mm or less and an Asker C hardness of 45° or more and 65° or less, and the facing roller member faces the transfer cylinder in the transfer region.

    Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes a holding body that holds a formed image; a transport unit that transports a recording medium in a state where a tip of the recording medium is grasped by a grasping portion; a transfer cylinder that has a substantially circular cross section, and that includes a concave portion that accommodates the grasping portion in a direction substantially orthogonal to a rotation direction and transfers an image on the holding body to the recording medium transported by the transport unit by interposing the recording medium transported by the transport unit between the transfer cylinder and the holding body; and an imparting portion that imparts a transport load to the recording medium that is transported to a transfer position at which the image on the holding body is transferred to the recording medium.

    Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes: a colorant image former; an image holder configured to hold a colorant image formed by the colorant image former and to be rotationally driven; a transfer member configured to transfer the colorant image onto a recording medium, which is transported from an upstream side, by sandwiching the recording medium between the transfer member and the image holder, and rotationally driving the transfer member to transport the recording medium to a downstream side; and a contact-and-separation mechanism configured to relatively contact or separate the image holder and the transfer member, in which, in response to an abnormality being detected, the image forming apparatus operates in a mode in which the contact-and-separation mechanism relatively separates the image holder and the transfer member, and then rotational driving of the transfer member is stopped after rotational driving of the image holder is stopped.
