1:2 Chromium complex dyes which contain one molecule of an azo or azomethine compound of the formula ##STR1## and one molecule of the azomethine compound of the formula ##STR2## COMPLEXED TO A CHROMIUM ATOM, IN WHICH FORMULAE A represents the radical of a diazo component of the benzene or naphthalene series, which carries the complex-forming group XH in ortho-position to the azo group,B represents the radical of a coupling component which couples in ortho-position to HX' or the radical of an aromatic o-hydroxyaldehyde,Z represents a nitrogen atom or the -CH group,X represents an oxygen atom or a -CO-O group,X' represents an oxygen atom, a NH group, a low molecular N-alkyl, N-aralkyl or N-aryl group, andR represents a substituted or unsubstituted aliphatic or cycloaliphatic radical,And the benzene ring a can carry a further fused benzene ring or can be substituted by halogen, nitro, alkyl and alkoxy, in particular by low molecular alkyl and alkoxy, and these compounds contain together 0 to 5 water-solubilizing groups and optionally a group of the formula--N.dbd.N--Ar--N.dbd.N--Ar' (3)and/or one to two groups of the formula--N.dbd.N--Ar" (4)wherein Ar, Ar' and Ar" represent an aromatic, carbocyclic or heterocyclic radical. These dyes are primarily suitable for dyeing natural and synthetic polyamide material.

Chromium complex dyes of the formula ##STR1## wherein Z is a nitro group or a chlorine atom, each of R and R.sub.1 is a phenyl radical which is optionally substituted by halogen, low molecular alkoxy, low molecular alkyl or nitro, one of the symbols X.sub.1, X.sub.2 and X.sub.3 is hydrogen and each of the others is hydrogen, a halogen atom, a nitro, methyl or methoxy group and Me.sup.+ is a cation. The dyes are suitable for dyeing and printing natural and synthetic polyamides to produce dyeings which are level and have good fastness to light, washing, fulling, decatizing and carbonizing.

Chromium complex dyes which, in the form of their free acid, have the formula ##STR1## wherein one X represents the sulphonic acid group and the other X represents the nitro group, Y is a sulfone or sulfonamide group and Z is an acyl group. The dyes are suitable for dyeing natural and synthetic polyamides to produce dyeings which are level and have good fastness to light, perspiration, fulling, decatizing and carbonizing.

The invention relates to chromium complex dyes which, in the form of the free acid, have the formula ##STR1## wherein X is a direct bond or a bridge member, each of Z and Z' independently is a nitrogen atom or a --CH-group, p is 1 or 2, each of Y and Y' independently is an oxygen atom or a group of the formula --NR--, wherein R is hydrogen or low molecular alkyl, with the proviso that if Z or Z' is a --CH-group, Y or Y' must be an oxygen atom, R.sub.1 is hydrogen or a substituent, B is a benzene or naphthalene radical, A is the radical of an o-hydroxyaldehyde if Z' is the --CH-group or, if Z' is a nitrogen atom, A is the radical of a coupling component which couples in the ortho-position to Y', D is the radical of an o-hydroxyaldehyde if Z is the --CH-group or, if Z is a nitrogen atom, D is the radical of a coupling component which couples in the ortho-position to Y, and n is an integer from 1 to 10. The present invention provides heavy metal complexes of azo dyes of the formula ##STR1## wherein each of A and A' represents a coupling component of the phenylenediamine, naphthol, naphthylamine, pyrazolone, aminopyrazole, acylacetamide, pyridone, 2,4,6-triaminopyridine or barbituric acid series, which is bound in ortho-position to a hydroxy, amino or enolisable keto group to the azo group, while A and A' carry at least one sulpho group and contain no other ionogenic substituents.
