    Abstract: A gas turbine engine, system, and method of severing at least one blade of a row of blades spaced about a rotor during an over speed condition are provided. The gas turbine engine includes a shaft rotatable about an axis of the shaft, a rotor coupled to the shaft and having a radially outer surface, and one or more rows of blades spaced axially along the outer portion. Each row of blades includes a plurality of blades spaced circumferentially around the radially outer surface. A gas turbine engine casing at least partially surrounds the one or more rows of blades. One or more rows of stationary vanes are spaced axially along the casing. Each row of stationary vanes includes a plurality of stationary vanes extending radially between the shaft and the gas turbine engine casing. The stationary vanes are coupled to the gas turbine engine casing using a fuse element.

    Abstract: A stage of guide vanes for a machine includes a first variable vane assembly including an airfoil. The airfoil of the first variable vane assembly includes a first member and a second member each extending generally along a radial direction and the second member being moveable relative to the first member. The stage of guide vanes also includes a second variable vane assembly including an airfoil, the airfoil of the second variable vane assembly including a first member and a second member each extending generally along the radial direction and the second member being moveable relative to the first member, the second members of the airfoils of the first and second variable vane assemblies being moveable towards one another.

    Abstract: A method of making a shroud assembly by: forming a shroud frame consisting of a one-piece hook and rail assembly which includes a first rail and a second rail disposed at lateral edges and a first support and a second support connected to the first rail and the second rail, the first and second rails and the first and second supports being integrally joined to one another and defining a central aperture therebetween; joining a metallic backsheet to the shroud frame covering the central aperture; and attaching a honeycomb rubs strip to the metallic backsheet via an upper edge of the honeycomb seal structure.
