Abstract: A method of configuring a power generation unit for synchronous condensing operation includes coupling a clutch to a generator shaft of a generator without moving the generator along a generator axis of the generator shaft. The method also includes coupling the clutch to a turbine shaft of a turbine via a spacer without moving the turbine along a turbine axis of the turbine. Furthermore, the generator shaft is configured to support a weight of the clutch without a clutch pedestal support.

Abstract: A method includes aligning a generator shaft axis of a generator, a clutch axis of a clutch, and a pump axis of a pump along a common axis. The method also includes coupling a supply line from the pump to a radial surface of the clutch. Further, the generator is configured to operate in a power generation mode and a synchronous condensing mode, and the pump is configured to supply a lubricant to the clutch in a radial direction that is substantially perpendicular to the common axis.

The clutchless synchronous condensing coupling includes a first coupling portion configured to couple to the turbine shaft, and a second coupling portion configured to couple to the generator shaft. The clutchless synchronous condensing coupling is configured to allow the power generation system to operate in an active power mode and a reactive power mode without a clutch assembly.

Abstract: The present application provides a power generation system. The power generation system may include a core turbine positioned about a core rotor shaft, a power turbine positioned about a power rotor shaft, a synchronous generator including a generator rotor shaft coupled to the power rotor shaft for rotation therewith, and an electronic controller in operable communication with the synchronous generator. The synchronous generator may be configured to generate reactive power for or absorb reactive power from an electric power grid when the power generation system operates in a reactive power mode. The electronic controller may be operable to cause the core rotor shaft to rotate when the power generation system operates in the reactive power mode.

Abstract: One or more cooling systems for ventilating a turbine and rotary shaft of a gas turbine system is provided. The gas turbine system includes a gas turbine engine and a turbine exhaust collector in separate enclosures. A first cooling system includes an educator that sucks exhaust gas through a diffuser and directs it out of the turbine exhaust collector enclosure based on suction pressure created from the high velocity of exhaust gas. A second cooling system include struts that enable the exhaust gas to flow from the diffusers to a ventilation flow stack. A third cooling system includes exhaust gas sucked from an opening to a top duct based on suction pressure created from the rotation of the rotary shaft disposed about a coupling. A guideway associated with the third cooling system also directs the exhaust gas to flow to the top duct.
