    Abstract: A speed reduction assembly for an electric vehicle includes an electric machine configured to operate as a motor and as a generator. The electric machine includes an output shaft that is rotatable about a longitudinal axis at an output speed. The assembly also includes an output member coupled to the output shaft and rotatable about the longitudinal axis at a reduced speed. In addition, the assembly includes a pericyclic apparatus coupled to the output shaft and the output member to reduce the output speed of the output shaft to the reduced speed of the output member. A vehicle may include the speed reduction assembly in certain configurations. The vehicle includes a battery module and the electric machine is in electrical communication with the battery module to recharge the battery module when the electric machine operates as the generator.

    Abstract: A powertrain for a vehicle includes a housing, a motor generator unit, a torque converter, a first and second shafts, a first and second gear sets, and a torque transmitting mechanism. The motor generator unit includes an output member. The torque converter includes a pump and a turbine. The pump is connected for common rotation with the output member of the motor generator unit. The first shaft rotatably is supported by the powertrain housing and is connected for common rotation with the turbine of the torque converter. The second shaft is rotatably supported by the powertrain housing and disposed parallel to the first shaft. An output gear is connected for common rotation to the second shaft.

    Abstract: An axial flux motor having a stator and a rotor disposed about a rotational axis adjacent the stator defining an air gap therebetween. The rotor includes a disk having an interior face oriented toward the stator and an opposite exterior face; a plurality of magnets affixed in a predetermined arrangement on the interior face of the disk; a back plate abutting the exterior face of the disk, and a segmented cage fitted onto the interior face. The back plate includes a circumferential edge surface defining a plurality of notches. The segmented cage includes a plurality of retainer ribs configured to retain the magnets in the predetermined arrangement on the interior face of the disk. The segmented cage cooperates with the back plate to structurally support the disk therebetween, thereby inhibiting the disk from flexing in an axial direction.

    Abstract: A continuously variable transmission includes a first pulley, a second pulley, and an endless rotatable device operatively interconnecting the first and second pulleys. The endless rotatable device includes a device body and a plurality of device teeth protruding from the device body. Each of the first and second pulleys includes a first sheave, a second sheave, and a pulley axle operatively coupled between the first sheave and the second sheave. The pulley axle defines a pulley center. The first sheave is movable relative to the second sheave along the pulley axle. Each of the first and second sheaves includes a sheave body and a plurality of sheave teeth protruding from the sheave body. The sheave teeth are annularly arranged around the pulley center. The sheave teeth are shaped to mate with the device teeth.

    Abstract: A cooling system includes a housing including a base portion with sides and a bottom surface that define a cavity and a cover portion to enclose the base portion and including cooling members attached thereto. A shield is arranged in the cavity. A vertical member is arranged below the shield to define a first fluid chamber between one side of the vertical member and one side of the base portion and a second fluid chamber between an opposite side of the vertical member and another side of the base portion.
