摘要: An appliance includes a rotating position switch and a selector switch. The rotating position switch has a first position associated with a first appliance function and a second position associated with a second appliance function. The second appliance function modifies the first appliance function. The selector switch has an actuated state configured to generate a signal representative of a selection of the first appliance function when the rotating position switch is in the first position. The actuated state is further configured to generate a signal representative of a selection of the second appliance function when the rotating position switch is in the second position.

摘要: The present invention provides a control system for a heating unit in a cooktop that is capable of detecting the presence (or absence) of a cooking pan or utensil. The heating unit has a spirally wound ribbon heater element and may be mounted below a glass-ceramic cooking surface. The control system includes a pan detection unit electrically connected to the heater element. The pan detection unit generates a high frequency signal through the heater element to determine whether a pan is present on the cooktop. The pan detection unit may have an oscillation circuit to generate the high frequency signal through the heater element. In one embodiment, the control system further includes at least one switch device that is connected between the heater element and a power source. The switch device is opened to remove the heater element from the power source when the pan detection unit generates the high frequency signal through the heater element. The present invention also includes a heating unit having dual heater units to determine the size of the pan placed on the cooktop. The present invention further includes methods of operating a heater unit and control system having the capability of detecting the presence of a pan.

摘要: A microcomputer of a household appliance, such as a microwave oven, receives input data from the user for operating the various functions of the appliance. The data is stored in the volatile memory of the microcomputer. The data is compressed into a bit pattern which is representative of all the bits in the volatile memory in the event of a power interruption. The compressed bit pattern is stored in the volatile memory of the microcomputer to be later verified. The operations of the microcomputer is continued for those functions which do not affect volatile memory until the power source is restored or the microcomputer is reset. In either case the volatile memory is verified by generating a compressed bit pattern for current data. The current bit pattern is then compared to an initial bit pattern. If the bit patterns are identical then the volatile memory has not been corrupted by an interruption of power exceeding a preselected "data vaild time". Also the fixed bit pattern is verified against a fixed bit pattern in nonvolatile memory to determine if any corrpution has occurred. If no corruption has occurred the normal operations continue. If it has been determined that the volatile memory has been corrupted, then the microcomputer is reinitialized with default data copies from nonvolatile memory to volatile memory.

摘要: An integrated electric motor and controller assembly includes a motor, a controller mounted to the motor, and a sensor device disposed at an interface between the motor and the controller. The sensor device includes a sensor disposed at the controller and a magnet disposed at the motor. An alignment structure is provided at the interface between the motor and the controller for positioning the sensor relative to the magnet when the controller is mounted to the motor. The magnet is recessed in the motor and the sensor is protected by a controller housing of the controller. This arrangement has the advantages of protecting the sensor device from damage during shipment and assembly and providing a quick assembly and connection of the sensor device to the motor and the controller.

摘要: A laundry appliance having a vibration detection device includes a frame, a drum received in the frame, and an electric motor assembly for driving the drum. The electric motor assembly includes an electric motor and an integrated motor controller mounted to the electric motor. An accelerometer as the vibration detection device is provided in the motor controller for detecting vibration of the drum. By integrating the accelerometer to the electric motor assembly, the laundry machine can more accurately detect vibration of the drum and the time and cost for assembling the washing machine are reduced.

摘要: An improved capacitive drop power supply is provided for use in home appliances. The power supply circuit includes: a rectifier for converting an AC power source to a DC voltage; a current limiting capacitance interposed between the AC power source and the rectifier; a low voltage output stage and a higher voltage output stage. The low voltage output stage supplies DC voltage from the rectifier to a microcontroller residing in the home appliance. The higher voltage output stage is connected in series with the low voltage stage and supplies DC voltage to the higher voltage loads associated with the home appliance. To reduce power consumption, a shunt circuit path is connected in parallel across the higher voltage output stage which causes a phase shift in the AC power signal and thereby reduce real power consumption when a no load condition is placed on the output stage (e.g., during a standby operating condition of the home appliance).
