Abstract: Embodiments of this application disclose a communication method and apparatus, to ensure normal implementation of a positioning function, so that a location management device positions a terminal device. The method includes: A distributed unit DU receives a positioning information request from a central unit CU, where the positioning information request is used to request to configure the terminal device to send a sounding reference signal SRS and request configuration information of the SRS. The DU sends a user equipment UE context modification required to the CU, where the UE context modification required includes first information, and the first information is used to indicate that the UE context modification required is in response to the positioning information request. The DU receives a UE context modification confirm from the CU. The DU sends a positioning information response to the CU, where the positioning information response includes the configuration information of the SRS.
