摘要： An apparatus and method for providing access rights information on computer accessible content are provided. The apparatus and method provide a mechanism through which access rights information is provided in association with information and content such that use of the information and content is controlled based on the access rights information. The apparatus and method include access rights information tags being associated with information and content to control access to the content. In alternative embodiments, the access rights information is implemented as metadata files rather than as tags. These metadata files are associated with content files and are processed when the access to the content is requested. In addition, when HTML content, which has associated ARI tags, is downloaded, the ARI tags may be stored as HTML code in a metadata file. The filesystem may then use a web browser or the like to parse and interpret the HTML code when access to the content file is desired.

Based on the user's change in state, an electronic mail message may be generated and sent to appropriate parties in order to voice the user's support or non-support of the proposed legislation as well as provide the appropriate parties with information about how the proposed legislation will affect the user. For example, a user's estimated tax liability under proposed changes to a tax code can be calculated and compared to previous year s tax liability. Based on the comparison, an estimated change in tax liability may be determined so that the user may be informed of how the proposed tax legislation will affect him/her. An electronic mail message may then be generated and sent to proponents of the proposed tax legislation, the user's elected representatives, and appropriate regulatory agencies in order to voice the user's support or non-support of the proposed tax legislation.

The users issue commands to insert bookmarks into the audio recording, the textual recording, or both, either during the live conference or during later playback. A user can issue these commands by voice or by sending data (for example, text) through the user's device. The commands may also be issued by software running on the user's device. The user can add, modify, and delete bookmarks and can provide a descriptive title for bookmarks. Bookmarks can be used to indicate important words or phrases, to mark changes in the subject of the conversation, etc. Bookmarks can be used by users to assist in the retrieval of information as well as by information processing software used to retrieve portions of stored conversations.

A user using a device with video capabilities can use facial cues, such as a facial expression, that is recognized as a command and sent to the personal telephony recorder. Video-based users can also send commands using a Doppler shift created by moving away from or towards the video recorder or a portion of the recorder. Personal telephony recorder users that use a pervasive computing device, such as a handheld computer or personal digital assistant, can issue commands by using a thumb switch usually located on the side of the device, or by using a stylus to select portions of the device's screen, such as command buttons.

Users participate by connecting through different types of networks using a device having a communication line connection. The recording can be in audio format, text format, or both. Thus, users can recall and replay textual information in addition to the recorded audio. Other information-such as time and user data-may also be recorded along with the audio and text. Users in the conference are identified to enable the association with them each user's contribution to the conference. The user or the user's device can assist by providing identification information. User identification may also be accomplished by associating each user's contribution with the particular line the user is calling from. Caller ID information may also be used to identify the user. Voice analysis may also performed to accomplish user identification.

摘要： A system and method is provided where a DVR service provider receives program sponsorship requests from sponsors and transmits the sponsorship information to the provider's clients. The sponsors pay the provider for including the sponsored programs as starting points in the on-screen guides that are used by the provider's clients. The user requests an on-screen guide and the DVR selects a sponsored program to use as the guide's starting point. The selected program is displayed and highlighted in the resulting on-screen guide display. The DVR keeps track of the number of times each sponsored program is used as the on-screen guide anchor as well as the number of times the user performs the sponsored program. Usage data, along with demographic data regarding the user, are periodically transmitted to the DVR service provider which creates reports for sponsors showing which programs were watched or recorded by different groups of people.
