Abstract: Disclosed herein are display panels, display panel stacks, and techniques to manufacture such display panel stacks where a polarizer is provided for each illumination element of the display panel stack. A polarizer can be formed onto each individual illumination element once the illumination element is transferred to the backplane. The polarizer can be arranged to polarize light emitted from the illumination element and light incident on the display from ambient.

Abstract: Technologies for power efficient display synchronization are disclosed. A compute device may be connected to two display devices. The compute device may send image data to be displayed on each of the display devices in a burst mode, sending the image data in less time than the time between frames. The compute device may then enter a low-power state prior to sending the next image to the display devices. Before sending the next image to the display devices, the compute device may send a synchronization signal, which the display devices may use to synchronize the timing of displaying images between the two display devices.

Abstract: Technologies for performing a simplified pixel shifting scheme on a display (e.g., an organic light emitting diode (OLED) display) are disclosed herein. An electronic device presents, on the display, a virtual display having an active area and a margin area surrounding the active area. The active area is to display content (e.g., image data, video data, etc.), and an amount of pixels in the virtual display is greater than an amount of pixels in the active area. The electronic device is also to shift the pixels of the active area within the virtual display according to a pixel shifting technique and update a touch coordinate offset for the touch screen interface based on the shift.

Abstract: Embodiments include apparatuses, methods, and systems including a selector. A selection signal may be provided to the selector to select a first synchronization signal as a control signal when the first synchronization signal is available, otherwise a second first synchronization signal as the control signal. The first or the second synchronization signal may synchronize a first or second display content received by a first or second display device with a first or a second display refresh rate, respectively. Abstract: Technologies for virtual reality display include a computing device coupled to a head-mounted display device. The head-mounted display includes a display panel, a pixel emission controller, and a pancake lens assembly. The display panel includes a display surface that emits light as multiple pixels. The pancake lens assembly includes folded optics to direct light to an eye box. The pixel emission controller applies an emission profile to each pixel of the light as a function of the position on the display surface of the corresponding pixel. The emission profile is determined based on an optical coupling between the position on the display surface through the pancake lens assembly to the eye box. The beam width of each pixel may decrease and the beam angle relative to an optical axis may increase as distance from the optical axis increases. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

Abstract: Examples disclosed herein obtain first image data and the second image data for a foveated image frame to be displayed on a display, the first image data to have a first resolution and the second image data to have a second resolution lower than the first resolution. Disclosed examples also up-sample the second image data based on first metadata to generate up-sampled second image data, the up-sampled second image data to have the first resolution, and combine the first image data and the up-sampled second image data based on second metadata. Disclosed examples further perform, based on third metadata, a combination of at least two different filter operations on an overlap region including a portion of the first image data and a portion of the up-sampled second image data to generate the foveated image frame, the third metadata to specify a width in pixels of the overlap region.

Abstract: Micro light-emitting diode displays having hybrid inorganic-organic pixel structures and methods of fabricating micro light-emitting diode displays having hybrid inorganic-organic pixel structures are described. In an example, a micro light emitting diode pixel structure includes a plurality of inorganic micro light emitting diode devices in a dielectric layer. An organic light emitting diode device is in the dielectric layer and laterally adjacent to the plurality of inorganic micro light emitting diode devices. A transparent conducting oxide layer is above the dielectric layer and can act as a common cathode electrode for the inorganic and organic light emitting diodes.
