Abstract:
The present invention relates to the promotion of a continuous chemical barrier of a soil-born invertebrate pest control agent in soil in a locus where soil-borne invertebrate pests are suspected or known to exist. In particular the present invention relates to compositions of liquid soil-borne invertebrate pest control agents and selected adjuvants wherein the adjuvant improves the downward and lateral movement in the soil of the soil-born invertebrate pest control agent contained in the liquid soil-borne invertebrate pest control agent. The invention set forth herein finds particular utility with soil-born invertebrate pest control agents with a water solubility of 3 ppm, or less, such as bifenthrin.
Abstract:
An electret condenser microphone includes a housing, a diaphragm disposed within the housing, first and second sound inlet ports and an acoustic resistive material disposed within the housing and in the acoustic path between the second inlet port and the diaphragm. The acoustic resistive may further electrically couple a backplate coupled to the diaphragm to an amplifier disposed within the housing.
Abstract:
A shock tool is adapted to a bottom hole tool assembly for isolating a zone in a subterranean formation accessed by a wellbore. Fracturing fluid such as nitrogen is accumulated at fracturing pressures uphole of the shock tool for subsequent and rapid release to the formation. The tool assembly can be suspended from a conveyance string in which fluid is accumulated for shock release through a valve of the shock tool and through an injection tool to the zone isolated by the injection tool. After a first zone is shocked, the tool assembly can be moved to a new zone, or multiple shocks can be applied cyclically at the selected zone.
Abstract:
The present invention provides methods for identifying target genes whose partial or complete functional inactivation potentiates the activity of an antibiotic agent, e.g., a quinolone antibiotic. The invention further provides methods for identifying agents that modulate expression of target genes or that modulate activity of expression products of target genes. Agents identified according to various methods of the invention potentiate the activity of antibiotics such as quinolones, aminoglycosides, peptide antibiotics and β-lactams. Also provided are agents that suppress and/or retard resistance to antibiotics. The inventive methods provide potentiating agents and compositions comprising potentiating agents and antibiotics. Such agents and compositions can be used for inhibiting growth or survival of a microbial cell or of treating a subject suffering from or susceptible to a microbial infection.
Abstract:
A storage receptacle is provided that has first and second sides and a bottom made as a unitary member from a single piece of sheet metal. The receptacle also includes front and rear ends, each coupled to the two sides and providing support for the bottom.
Abstract:
A dryer assembly for drying compressed fluid received from a fluid compressor. The dryer assembly comprises a compressed fluid circuit and a refrigeration circuit associated with the compressed fluid circuit and configured to reduce the temperature of the compressed fluid and to remove condensate from the compressed fluid. The dryer includes means for manipulating the dryer to regulate the rate of heat transfer between the compressed fluid circuit and the refrigeration circuit. A first sensor senses the lowest temperature of the compressed fluid after the compressed fluid has passed the refrigeration circuit and a second sensor senses a reference temperature. A controller is configured to receive the lowest temperature and reference temperature from the sensors and to determine a relative humidity based on the lowest temperature and the reference temperature. The controller controls the means for manipulating the dryer in response to the determined relative humidity.
Abstract:
In accordance with a preferred embodiment of the invention, a novel apparatus for and method of simulating physical processes such as fluid flow is provided. Fluid flow near a boundary or wall of an object is represented by a collection of vortex sheet layers. The layers are composed of a grid or mesh of one or more geometrically shaped space filling elements. In the preferred embodiment, the space filling elements take on a triangular shape. An Eulerian approach is employed for the vortex sheets, where a finite-volume scheme is used on the prismatic grid formed by the vortex sheet layers. A Lagrangian approach is employed for the vortical elements (e.g., vortex tubes or filaments) found in the remainder of the flow domain. To reduce the computational time, a hairpin removal scheme is employed to reduce the number of vortex filaments, and a Fast Multipole Method (FMM), preferably implemented using parallel processing techniques, reduces the computation of the velocity field.
Abstract:
An apparatus for end-rounding bristles in a brush having different heights. The apparatus includes pins disposed in pre-determined locations such that they will contact selected bristles in a brush abutting the apparatus when the pins travel a two-dimensional path. The height of the pins is adjusted according to the heights of the selected bristles.
Abstract:
A pruner has a movable handle/blade assembly pivotally coupled to a static handle/blade assembly by a pivot assembly carried by the static handle. The pivot assembly further has a bush within the static handle and on which the movable handle/blade assembly is pivotally mounted, a spring for pivotally biasing the movable handle/blade assembly to an open position being retained by the pivot assembly within the static handle. Both the movable blade and static blade are mounted on the bush and are clamped laterally between two separate parts of the bush which are assembled together in screw threaded engagement, and the two blades are supported from the bush by a bearing ring of low friction material.
