Abstract: A display device includes a first substrate having a light shielding layer, and a second substrate having a first metal layer, a semiconductor layer formed over the first metal layer, and a second metal layer formed over the semiconductor layer. A sealing member fixes the first substrate and the second substrate, with a first scale mark formed over the first substrate, and a second scale mark formed over the second substrate and which forms a pair with the first scale mark. The light shielding layer has a first opening portion, and the first scale mark is arranged inside the first opening portion. The second scale mark is formed of a first part of the second metal layer, and a first part of the semiconductor layer and a first part of the first metal layer are overlapped with and extend off from the first part of the second metal.

Abstract: The displacement between a TFT substrate and a counter substrate and the cut of an alignment film caused by a columnar spacer are prevented. A liquid crystal display device includes: a TFT substrate including a scanning line extending in a first direction, a picture signal line extending in a second direction, a pixel electrode formed in a region surrounded by the scanning line and the picture signal line, and a common electrode formed as opposed to the pixel electrode through an insulating film; a counter substrate disposed as opposed to the TFT substrate and having a spacer; and a liquid crystal sandwiched between the substrates. A common metal interconnection is formed to cover the picture signal line or the scanning line, and stacked on the common electrode. A through hole is formed on the common metal interconnection. The tip end of the spacer is disposed inside the through hole.

In the liquid crystal display device that includes a TFT substrate, a CF substrate, and liquid crystal sandwiched between the TFT substrate and the CF substrate and that drives the liquid crystal with a lateral electric field, the TFT substrate has the organic flattened film in which a through hole for contacting a source electrode of the TFT and a pixel electrode and a sectional shape of the through hole is asymmetrical between a side on which the pixel electrode extends and the other side.

Abstract: A liquid crystal display device includes: a TFT substrate including a TFT, an organic passivation film formed to cover the TFT, and an alignment film; and a counter substrate including a spacer and an alignment film. The TFT substrate and the counter substrate are bonded with a sealing material in a seal portion, with a liquid crystal interposed between the two substrates. A wall-like structure is formed in the seal portion of the counter substrate, in a direction parallel to a side of the counter substrate. A concave portion of the organic passivation film is formed at a position corresponding to the wall-like structure of the TFT substrate, in a direction parallel to the side of the TFT substrate. With this structure, a gap between the wall-like structure and the TFT substrate is increased to facilitate the movement of the sealing material before curing, to form the sealing material uniformly.

Abstract: Red pixels (R), blue pixels (B) and green pixels (G) are formed in parallel. First columnar spacers 10 and second columnar spacers 20 are formed on a first substrate. The distance between the first substrate and a second substrate in a normal state is determined by the first columnar spacers 10. The diameter of a light blocking film corresponding to each first columnar spacer 10 is greater than the diameter of a light blocking film corresponding to each second columnar spacer 20. The first columnar spacer 10 is not formed at a boundary between a green pixel (G) and a red pixel (R) or a boundary between a green pixel (G) and a blue pixel (B). The second columnar spacer 20 is formed at a boundary between pixels irrespective of the pixel color. Thus, appropriate color balance can be attained with ease without having a drop in the luminance.
