    摘要: Apparatuses and methods are provided that minimize the effects of dark-current pulses. For example, in one embodiment of the invention, a method is provided where a first pixel is struck (i.e., a primary pixel). Pixels struck within a fixed time frame after the primary pixel is struck are referred to as secondary pixels. After a short fixed time frame has expired, the number of primary and secondary pixels is added. If the count exceeds a threshold, the primary pixel was activated by the first (or early) photon from a true gamma event. If the threshold is not met then it is likely the primary pixel generated a dark pulse that should be ignored.

    摘要: Methods, and systems therefrom, for generating images from time of flight (TOF) data associated with a scan of at least one object using a positron emission tomography system are provided. The method includes providing initial values for an activity image to yield a current activity image. The method also includes estimating initial values for an attenuation map (μ-map) image based on the TOF data to yield a current μ-map image. The method further includes repeating, until at least one termination condition is met, the steps of updating the current activity image based on at least the current μ-map and a first update algorithm and updating the current μ-map image based on at least on the updated activity image and a second update algorithm. The method also includes outputting an image of the at least one object based on the current μ-map and the current activity image.

    摘要: A method for improving clinical data quality in Positron Emission Tomography (PET). The method provides for the processing of PET data to accurately and efficiently determine a data single-to-noise ratio (SNR) corresponding to each individual clinical patient scan, as a function of a singles rate in a PET scanner. The method relates an injected dose to the singles rate to determine SNR(Dinj),and provides an accurate estimate of a quantity proportional to SNR, similar in function to the SNR(Dinj). Knowledge of SNR(Dinj) permits determination of peak SNR, optimal dose, SNR deficit, dose deficit, and differential dose benefit. The patient dose is fractionated, with a small calibration dose given initially. After a short uptake, the patient is pre-scanned to determine T, S, and R. An optimal does is then determined and the remainder injected.

    摘要: For patient transmission data acquired simultaneously with patient emission data, blank transmission data are acquired in the absence of the patient emission and therefore under count rate conditions different from the count rate conditions of the patient transmission data. To prevent the different count rate conditions from causing artifacts in reconstructed tomographic images, a correction is made for spatially varying count rate effects on the attenuation correction. For example, the blank scan data are adjusted according to the count rate at which the patient emission data are acquired, and the adjusted blank scan data and the patient transmission data are used for attenuation correction of the patient emission data used for reconstructing a tomographic image.

The method for manufacturing an LSO:Ce crystal boule having a decay time gradient decreasing from the top end to the bottom end first includes the step selecting an iridium crucible. The crucible is selected based upon its diameter relative to the diameter defined by said crystal boule. The crucible is also selected based upon its volume relative to the volume of the crystal boule to be grown. A Cerium dopant (CeO2) is added to a mixture of Lutetium Oxide (Lu2O3) and Silicon Dioxide (SiO2). The composition is heated until melted to define a melt. A seed crystal is then placed in contact with the melt, is rotated, and slowly withdrawn, thereby yielding an LSO:Ce crystal boule defining a decay time gradient.
