The process control system also includes a user interface configured to provide for selection of the field device and selection of an alert representation of the field device to enable an alert of the field device. The process control system also includes a controller configured to set the first plurality of parameters of the field device to a respective first plurality of values to enable the alert based on the selection of the alert representation in the user interface.

In one embodiment, an industrial process control system includes a controller a controller coupled to a field device. The industrial process control system further includes an alert server coupled to the controller. The controller is configured to detect, via a first protocol, removal of the field device and to communicate, in a second protocol, the removal of the field device to the alert server.

Application code having SFC logic may be first downloaded to a designated controller of the TMR system. After download to the designated controller, the other controllers of TMR system may be updated in a cascading (circular) pattern. After updating the second controller with the updated logic, the designated controller may provide correct state information to the second controller.
