    摘要: An apparatus for decoding a channel signal into an information signal is disclosed. The channel signal comprises subsequent blocks of information, a block of information comprising a sync word and a plurality of channel words. The information signal includes subsequent information words. The apparatus includes an input terminal for receiving the channel signal, a conversion unit for converting the channel words into the information words, and an error concealment unit. The information signal obtained is supplied to an output terminal. The conversion unit includes a channel word detector for establishing whether channel words received are channel words not belonging to a group of valid channel words. If so, the channel word detector is adapted to supply a detection signal upon such detection. This enables the detection signals to be counted so as to establish a mis-synchronization of the decoding apparatus.

    摘要: A method of encoding n-bit information words into m-bit code words and the other way round is described, which code words have a specific disparity d and a digital sum value which is limited to values p and q. In order to enable encoding and decoding without the use of an extensive look-up table, use is made of a series of numbers which is a modified version of numbers in conformity with the Newton binomial. By means of this modified series, the n-bit information words, which are arranged in conformity with their binary weights, are mapped lexicographically and unambiguously onto code words with said limitations, and the other way round.

    摘要: A a series of m-bit information words is converted to a modulated signal. For each information word from the series, an n-bit code word is delivered. The delivered code words are converted to the modulated signal. The code words are distributed over at least one group of a first type and at least one group of a second type. When a code word belonging to a group of the first type is delivered, its group establishes a coding state of a first type. When a code word belonging to an group of the second type is delivered, a coding state of a second type is established which is determined by the information word which is to be converted to the delivered code word. When one of the code words is assigned to the received information word, this code word is selected from a set of code words which depends on the coding state established. The sets of code words belonging to the coding states of the second type are disjunct. In this coding method, the number of unique bit combinations that may be established by the code words in the series are enlarged. The modulated signal obtained may be reconverted to information words by first converting the modulated signal to a series of code words and then assigning an information word to each of the code words from the series in dependence on the code word to be converted and also in dependence on the logical values of the bit string bits which are situated at predetermined positions relative to the code word.

    摘要: Method of connecting a stream of data bits of a binary source signal into a stream of data bits of a binary channel signal. The data bit stream of the source signal is divided into a sequence of five authorized source words of variable lengths. Each of these five authorized source words are converted into a channel word having twice the number of data bits. This conversion has been chosen such that a very small error propagation is obtained and that at the same time very simple electronics are required. For dividing the data bit stream into information blocks and for providing the timing during the decoding operation a very suitable synchronizing word is used.

With such apparatus, very long information words can be converted into channel words, while serious error propagation is avoided during transmission.
