Provided are a method and a device for booting a host embodying a downloadable conditional access system (DCAS), wherein one of a plurality of pre-determined booting modes is decided as a booting mode of the host based on first information indicating whether a host can communicate with a broadcasting service provider and second information indicating whether a software-based security client providing information required for decrypting broadcasting data is installed to a hardware-based security module connected to the host, and the host is booted in the decided booting mode.

A channel scanning method is provided that is performed by a digital broadcast receiver having a plurality of tuners. The channel scanning method includes determining whether channel data exists in a channel, and if channel data exists in the channel, storing information regarding the channel obtained by parsing the channel data, and moving ahead by a number of channels corresponding to the number of tuners included in the digital broadcast receiver.

An automatic zoom apparatus and method for playing dynamic images. The automatic zoom apparatus provides more dynamic images to a user by detecting a dynamic change of image signals to zoom and display a predetermined area where the dynamic change is detected. To this end, the automatic zoom apparatus for playing the dynamic images comprises a motion detector for, when a zoom function is requested to zoom predetermined image signals, detecting a motion based on a color change between frames extracted from the predetermined image signals. Also included is a motion area designator for designating a predetermined area including objects of the motion detected by the motion detector, as a motion area, and a zoom controller for performing a zoom function for zooming an image of the image signals of the motion area designated by the motion area designator. Thereby, the user can enjoy a more dynamic image such that television watching is not as monotonous.

The application processing method includes: analyzing information on each of a plurality of applications providing a common broadcasting service; selecting an application suitable for a broadcasting receiving apparatus among the plurality of applications based on the analysis; and executing the selected application. When a plurality of applications is transmitted to a broadcasting receiving apparatus, the broadcasting receiving apparatus can select an easily executable application.

A method and apparatus for efficiently selecting a demodulation scheme for a particular channel in a digital broadcast receiver supporting a plurality of demodulation schemes are provided. The method includes receiving the digital broadcast signal of the channel; attempting demodulation of the digital broadcast signal using a demodulation scheme corresponding to a sequential index; and if the demodulation attempt succeeds, restoring data and if the demodulation attempt does not succeed, attempting demodulation again using a demodulation scheme corresponding to a next sequential index.
