Abstract: The invention relates to a method of monitoring an elevator roping, the roping comprising plurality of movable ropes, the method comprising emitting light in particular with one or more light sources on the ropes while they move past the one or more light sources; and capturing with a camera system images continuously or intermittently of a zone towards which the one or more light sources emit light; and analyzing with an analyzing system the images captured by the camera system. Said emitting comprises emitting on a flank of each of said ropes at least one light beam having a shape, and said analyzing comprises recognizing in the images patterns of light emitted on said ropes and analyzing one or more characteristics of the recognized patterns. The invention also relates to a monitoring arrangement implementing the method.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for operating an elevator system. The method comprises receiving a request to drive an elevator car to a destination and generating an elevator car motion profile to serve the received request. The elevator car motion profile comprises at least the following motion parameters of the elevator car: acceleration, maximum speed, and deceleration. At least one of the maximum speed of the elevator car and the deceleration of the elevator car in the generated elevator car motion profile is defined on the basis of the destination. The invention relates also to a processing unit and an elevator system configured to perform the method at least partly.

Abstract: According to an aspect, there is provided an elevator car parking brake comprising brake pads and an actuator configured to move the brake pads with respect to a guide rail. The elevator car parking brake further comprises levers, each having an associated brake pad; and at least one screw associated with the actuator and rotatably fixed to at least one lever via at least one attaching member. In a braking operation, the actuator is configured to rotate the at least one screw in a first direction with respect to the at least one attaching member, thus causing the levers with the brake pads to move towards the guide rail. In a brake release operation, the actuator is configured to rotate the at least one screw in a second direction with respect to the at least one attaching member, thus causing the levers with the brake pads to move away from the guide rail.
