Abstract:
An apparatus for making records of message characters using a character forming device between a source of light and a record medium, and wherein the forming device lends itself to effecting recordations either while in direct contact with the record medium for making ''''hard copy'''' prints, or, through a lens system onto microfilm. The device makes use of a bundle of optical fibers extending from a light admitting surface to a light emitting surface of the device and wherein the fibers are divided into a number of smaller bundles, representing segments with which characters are formed. To form a particular character predetermined ones of the larger bundles are illuminated on the light admitting side of the device, and their corresponding segments will emit light in the form of the desired character on the opposite side, and from which a record is made.
Abstract:
The system herein includes light optic means which functions as a light beam distributor in making available, almost instantly, an information bearing beam of light at a multiplicity of output positions in the system, as opposed to many well known line scan beam deflection systems. The information bearing light output thereupon lends itself to data display, recording or communications.
Abstract:
An apparatus utilizing a character generation control system between a source of light and a light-responsive record medium for recording information in the form of letters, numerals, symbols, etc., which must be recorded in well-registered lines of type fonts across the medium. This is accomplished through the use of a vertical array of individually controlled light beams that are swept simultaneously in a horizontal direction across the surface of the record medium. While doing so the beams of the array are selectively turned on or off in accordance with a predetermined set of character generation requirements. Electrooptic light gating elements are associated with an array of light guides, from which the beams emanate, for effecting the desired on-off conditions for generating a line of characters, and electrooptic light beam deflectors are used to direct the beams to a series of horizontal line positions on the medium.
