摘要: Disclosed is a polymer electrolyte fuel cell having an improved separator plate. The fuel cell comprises a solid polymer electrolyte membrane; an anode and a cathode sandwiching the solid polymer electrolyte membrane therebetween; an anode-side conductive separator plate having a gas flow path for supplying a fuel gas to the anode; and a cathode-side conductive separator plate having a gas flow path for supplying an oxidant gas to the cathode, wherein each of the anode-side and cathode-side conductive separator plates is composed of a metal and a conductive coat which has resistance to oxidation and covers a surface of the metal. Alternatively, the above-mentioned separator plates are formed of a metal and a coat having resistance to oxidation and have roughened surfaces with recessions and protrusions, and portions of a top surface of the protruding portions, which lack the coat, are electrically connected to an electrode.

摘要: In a polymer electrolyte membrane type fuel cell employing a high polymer ion exchange membrane as an electrolyte, a fuel cells stack is produced at a low cost by easily constituting flow passages for a fuel gas, an oxidizing agent gas and a cooling water which have been conventionally constituted by a cutting process being hard to process and hard to reduce a cost. The fuel gas passage, the oxidizing agent gas flow passage and the cooling water flow passage are constructed by a combination of a diffuser constituted by a conductive porous body or a corrugated plate and an elastic gasket, whereby a cutting process is not required, and a number of parts can be reduced and an operating performance can be improved by integrally forming the gasket with the separator, so that a cost can be reduced.

摘要: A fuel cell apparatus of a compact size uses a hydrogen storage alloy, in which heat can be efficiently transmitted from fuel cell bodies to the hydrogen storage alloy. The fuel cell apparatus includes a plurality of fuel cell bodies, a hydrogen storage tank, a hydrogen supply device for supplying hydrogen to the fuel cell bodies from the hydrogen storage tank, an air feed device for supplying the air, supplying oxygen, a secondary battery, and a casing receiving the above components therein which casing has air intake ports and an air discharge port for the air feed device, and is formed as to enable the hydrogen storage tank to be introduced into and removed from the casing. The hydrogen storage tank is disposed on that side surface of each of at least one pair of fuel cell bodies, facing away from a cathode thereof, through a heat transmission device. With this construction, the energy of heat, generated by the fuel cell bodies, is efficiently transmitted to the hydrogen storage tank, and the stable supply of the hydrogen can be achieved, and the whole of the power system can be formed into a compact design.

摘要: The present invention provides a polymer electrolyte fuel cell stack that includes a cell laminate having a plurality of unit cells, which are laid one upon another and each of which includes a polymer electrolyte membrane, a pair of electrodes that are arranged across the polymer electrolyte membrane and respectively have a catalytic reaction layer, a separator having means for feeding a supply of fuel gas containing hydrogen gas to one of the electrodes, and another separator having means for feeding a supply of oxidant gas to the other of the electrodes. In the polymer electrolyte fuel cell stack, a sealing portion is disposed at least in the vicinity of each electrode. The polymer electrolyte fuel cell stack of the present invention has excellent durability and productivity. Gasket sealing portions, a sealing portion for cooling water, and sealing portions for water and gas in an internal humidifying unit are constituted by a polymer compound that has polyisobutylene as the backbone structure. This arrangement ensures the high reliability.

This makes it possible for the fuel cell to have an excellent sealing property and a stable output characteristic.

摘要: There is disclosed a fuel cell system according to the invention comprising; a material gas feeder (1); a reformer (3); a fuel cell (4); a combustor (5); communication passages (6A-6E); and a controller (20), wherein during a shutdown period of the fuel cell (4), the controller (20) determines whether the fuel cell system is in a normal condition where a shutdown operation of the fuel cell (4) is performed; and wherein if the controller (20) determines that the fuel cell system is not in the normal condition, the controller (20) controls the material gas feeder (1) to execute a material gas feed process before a next ignition of the combustor (5), the material gas feed process being performed such that the material gas is supplied to a hydrogen-containing gas flow path constituted by the reformer (3) and the communication passages (6A-6E) located between the reformer (3) and the combustor (5).
