Abstract:
A solder paste transfer process is provided and includes defining an arrangement of solder pad locations on a surface, applying solder paste onto a transfer tool in a pre-defined configuration reflective of the arrangement, disposing the transfer tool in an inverted orientation proximate to the surface and reflowing the solder paste to flow from the transfer tool to the solder pad locations.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for measuring the core temperature of an animal or human. Thermal black body emissions from the eyeball are detected, at one or more wavelengths selected on the basis of various factors, including the ability of that wavelength to reach the interior of the eyeball. An illumination marker shines a spot of light on the eyeball, such that the spot corresponds to the area from which emissions are being detected.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to an electric-hydraulic power unit. In one illustrative embodiment, the power unit comprises a body having a movable pressure barrier positioned therein, the movable pressure barrier defining first and second chambers therein, a configurable flow path in fluid communication with the first and second chambers, and at least one valve for configuring the flow path in a first state wherein fluid may flow within the flow path only in a direction from the first chamber toward the second chamber, and a second state wherein fluid within the flow path may flow in both directions between the first and second chambers.
Abstract:
A method for forming a cylindrical body utilizing a continuous weld is provided. The method includes feeding a source material including a first edge and a second edge from a coil and offsetting at least one of the first edge and the second edge. The method further includes spiraling the material to form a cylinder, welding the first edge and the second edge together forming a continuous weld, and cutting the cylinder to a selected length. To fabricate a jacket, a longitudinal cut is made in the cylindrical body, at least one cutout is cut, and the continuous weld is an outer fillet weld.
Abstract:
A hydraulically activated device for spacing plural towed lines includes a toroidal and inflatable tube member defining an aperture in an opening of the toroid shape. A plurality of connectors each secure a corresponding one of the plural towed lines to the toroidal and inflatable tube member. The toroidal and inflatable tube member is inflated with sea water to a predetermined volumetric configuration suitable to an operating speed range of the towed lines and upon inflation will space the towed lines in a three-dimensional arrangement therearound. A sheath may also be formed around the toroidal and inflatable tube member, the sheath being formed in cross section as a tear drop or similar streamlined shape.
Abstract:
A consumable probe is installed in an elbow zone of a well. The consumable probe is subject to ablation caused by abrasive particles suspended in the fluid being transported by the conduit. As the probe is ablated pressure sensitive chambers will be exposed and the pressure in the conduit will pressurize the pressure sensitive chambers and signal a readout station in a position remote from the location of the probe in the conduit.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to a detector for the detection of abrasive material being carried by fluid passing through a wellhead, the detector including an erosion block having a passage therein and a bore intercepting the passage; a probe which is inserted into the bore of the erosion block, this probe having a contact zone exposed to the passage when the probe is inserted in the bore and a first bore extension inboard of the surface of the contact zone which communicates with a first bore; and a first pressure transducer provided for sensing pressure in the first bore and in the first bore extension connected thereto; the pressure transducer providing an electrical output indicative of a change in pressure in the first bore and being electrically coupled to a device which is responsive to the electrical output of the first pressure transducer.
Abstract:
In ink-jet pens (10) for use with printers and plotters, an elastomeric, back-pressure bladder (12) is employed to ensure a supply of ink (14) to the printhead (16) under substantially constant pressure. Contamination of ink due to solubilization of components in the bladder by the aqueous-based ink is avoided by employing an elastomer composition essentially of a high cross-link density ethylene propylene diene monomer, carbon black as reinforcement, dicumyl peroxide on Kaolin clay as curative, and fully hydrogenated clay filtered mineral oil as plasticizer. Such elastomers are given by the composition range (in parts per hundred):______________________________________ EPDM resin 100 Carbon black 18 to 30 Curative 7.0 to 7.5 Plasticizer 20 to 25. ______________________________________
Abstract:
A positive displacement rotary compressor includes a stator which contains a rotor and has a stator inlet communicating with atmosphere via a first pilot operated valve and a stator outlet connected to a primary lubricant reservoir via a non-return valve and to an auxiliary lubricant reservoir via a second pilot operated valve and one or more lubricant injection orifices arranged to inject oil into the stator and connected to the primary reservoir via a third pilot operated valve and to the secondary reservoir. The compressor also includes a pilot control system responsive, in use, to the compressed air load to which the compressor is subjected and arranged to switch the first and third pilot operated valves from an open position to a closed position and the second pilot operated valve from a closed position to an open position when the compressed air load falls below a predetermined value. The auxiliary lubricant reservoir is always at substantially atmospheric pressure.
Abstract:
A constant motion pipe swivel joint having a greatly improved useful life without leakage of fluid from the joint. The swivel joint includes a plurality of sealing discs rotatably positioned between an outer joint member and an inner joint member. One side of each disc is coated with a material having a low coefficient of friction and the other side of each disc is bonded to a layer of elastomeric material such as rubber. The discs are pressed together by the inner and outer members to provide a seal which prevents leakage of fluid from the joint. The rubber stretches to allow small degrees of rotation of the joint without any slippage of one disc over another, and the surfaces of the discs are free to slip over each other to allow a large amount of rotation of the outer joint member relative to the inner joint member.
