Abstract: A method of calibrating a monitoring device (20) for monitoring movement of a movable component (2, 12, 19) of an elevator system (2) comprises detecting (120) a travel time (Δtk) between a starting time (tk) and a stopping time (t′k) as well as acceleration (a(t)) of at least one movement of the movable component (2, 12, 19); determining (130, 140) a travel distance of the movable component (2, 12, 19) by integrating the detected acceleration (a(t)) twice with respect to the detected travel time (Δtk); correlating (150) the determined travel distance (sk) with the detected travel time (Δtk) to form a pair of travel time and travel distance; and storing (160) the pair of travel time and travel distance (Δtk,sk) as part of a travel profile (34).

Abstract: An electronic speed detection system is provided. The electronic speed detection system includes an accelerometer coupled to a moving object and a hybrid altimeter, which includes a first pressure sensor coupled to the moving object and a second pressure sensor. The electronic speed detection system also includes a controller comprising a memory and a processor. The memory storing computer program instructions executable by the processor to cause the electronic speed detection system to determine a normalized position based on first inputs received from the hybrid altimeter, or determine a corrected velocity position based on a second input received from the accelerometer and the normalized position.

Abstract: A brake assembly for an elevator system is provided and includes a guide rail configured to guide movement of an elevator car. Also included is a safety brake operatively coupled to the elevator car and having a brake surface configured to frictionally engage the guide rail. Further included is a safety brake actuation mechanism operatively coupled to the safety brake and configured to actuate the safety brake to a braking position. The mechanism includes a first sensing device disposed on a first side of the guide rail to detect a first condition reading of the elevator car relative to the guide rail. The mechanism also includes a second sensing device disposed on a second, opposite side of the guide rail to detect a second condition reading of the elevator car relative to the guide rail, the first and second condition readings collectively analyzed to determine an overall condition reading.

Abstract: According to an aspect, a method includes monitoring a plurality of vibration data by a vibration monitoring beacon and determining that the vibration monitoring beacon has been installed at a service location based on detecting an installation characteristic signature in the vibration data. The vibration monitoring beacon can transition into a learning mode based on determining that the vibration monitoring beacon has been installed at the service location. The method can also include monitoring for a learning mode termination event and transitioning the vibration monitoring beacon from the learning mode to a normal operation mode based on detecting the learning mode termination event.

Abstract: A method for monitoring thresholds for performance attributes in an elevator system is provided. Aspects includes collecting, by a sensor affixed to an elevator car, sensor data associated with the elevator system wherein the sensor data comprises one or more performance attribute values for a set of performance attributes of the elevator system. Obtaining a threshold profile associated with the elevator system, wherein the threshold profile comprises thresholds for each performance attribute in the set of performance attributes of the elevator system. Comparing the one or more performance attribute values to corresponding thresholds for the set of performance attributes and transmitting an alert for any of the one or more performance attribute values exceeding the corresponding thresholds for the set of performance attributes.
