Abstract:
An optical head has a head gimbal assembly on which a light emitting laser is mounted. A tab extends from the assembly and a photo-detector is mounted on the tab. The tab extends from the load beam of the head gimbal assembly. Alternatively, the tab extends from a flexure of the head disk assembly.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for etching a point on the surface of a magnetic medium to reduce the reflectivity of the point and for verifying that proper etching occurred. A light source provides a collimated incident beam of light. The incident beam is focused to a point on the medium and a portion of the beam is reflected. The reflected beam is separated from the incident beam and the intensity of the reflected beam is measured. The measured intensity is compared to a threshold value and verification is indicated if the measured intensity exceeds the threshold value.
Abstract:
A flexure joint is formed at the base of a buoyant tower structure by piles driven into the ocean floor. The geometric arrangement of these piles increases the buoyant tower's resistance to lateral forces at the base, while allowing rotational displacement about any horizontal axis, and also allows wells to be directed through the piles to formations located a substantial distance from the tower.
Abstract:
A work mat on which a worker stands while operating a machine for comfort and for the purpose of easing of physical stress caused by standing on a non-compressible floor during a work day. The work mat includes a wooden platform with a peripheral synthetic border which tapers from the floor up to the top edge of the wooden platform. In addition, the synthetic border extends inward about one half inch under the peripheral edge of the wooden platform, thereby elevating the wooden platform above the floor. The wooden platform is therefore suspended over the floor and can flex up and down as a user walks on or stands on the mat, thereby absorbing some of the shock of walking and moving on the floor. The compressibility of the wooden platform adds to the comfort of the work mat as well.
Abstract:
A dishwasher configured to perform a physical cycle of operation and having a power savings mode during which the dishwasher periodically monitors a key press by a user to determine if the dishwasher should be taken out of the power savings mode.
Abstract:
An insertable shoe insole or shoe integrally formed therewith having electrostatic protection and a method of categorizing and selecting same which provides individual solutions to workplace fatigue and stress by determining the specific support needed for each individual. Specifically, the present invention defines and utilizes an ergonomic interaction factor to enable selection of a proper fitting shoe. Such selection occurs in one embodiment by dividing a person's weight by the contact area of the bottom of their feet. The insole includes an electrically conductive material for the purpose of eliminating the buildup of static charge by conducting static charges from the user's feet to conductive shoes which then transfer the charge to the floor.
Abstract:
A Luer access device may include a housing, a septum, and a gas permeable vent in communication with at least a portion of the housing for venting gas from an extravascular system. A method of venting a medical device may include providing a gas permeable vent within a Luer access device as part of an extravascular system and venting gas from the extravascular system through the gas permeable vent of the Luer access device.

Abstract:
Systems and methods are provided for remotely a monitoring an individual's ability to carry out a various exercise activities and to evaluate the individual's range of motion. The individual can stand or sit in the field of view of the camera and carry out a set of base line activities. The baseline activities can be stored for subsequent retrieval and analysis. Based on the results of that evaluation, other activities can be prescribed for the individual to systematically carry out. The results of the subsequent activities can be evaluated and compared to the result of the base line activities to determine how the activities should be revised or whether other treatments are required or appropriate.
Abstract:
The current invention substantially removes particulate waste materials or debris from the floptical medium after laser etching. A low-temperature gas containing ice crystals is applied at a predetermined angle while the floptical medium is being rotated to improve the cleaning effect. The temperature of the disk is maintained above freezing to maintain the cleaning effect.
