    Abstract: Modem thermal management may include a state machine monitoring a temperature associated with a modem, setting a mode in response to detection of a change in the temperature with respect to a threshold, and applying a set of one or more thermal mitigation actions associated with a current state of the state machine. The state machine may set a timer in response to detection of the change in temperature and then transition from the current state to another state in response to expiration of the timer. The monitored temperature may be a junction temperature or a skin temperature.

    Abstract: Various embodiments of methods and systems for modem management in a portable computing device are disclosed. An exemplary method recognizes an input of a key performance indicator (“KPI”) from a plurality of performance indicators. Based on the key performance indicator either manually by a user or automatically based on system status information, the exemplary method determines a particular modem management and control strategy designed to optimize performance of the modem based on the key performance indicator. The determined modem management and control strategy is implemented to cause adjustment of a modem performance level such that the key performance indicator is optimized. Exemplary KPIs include, lower device temperature, maximization of the percentage of time that the modem is operating at a maximum advertised LTE speed, maximization of the average data throughput, maximization of battery life, and minimizing LTE speed transitions over time.

    Abstract: Aspects of the present disclosure relate to wireless communications, and more particularly, to techniques that may help mitigate service loss for a UE (e.g., in DSDA mode) due to temperature rise. According to certain aspects, a UE detects, while operating in a multi subscriber identity module (SIM) mode with at least a first subscriber (SUB) and a second subscriber (SUB) active on a first radio access technology (RAT), that the UE has reached a first temperature threshold less than a second temperature threshold at which the UE limits service in the first RAT and greater than a third temperature threshold associated with a temperature mitigation level. The UE then takes action to move the first SUB to a second RAT in response to the detecting.

    Abstract: Systems and methods providing antenna element feed path component management for facilitating millimeter wave communication are described. Embodiments can enable and provide mitigation of thermal, power consumption, and/or maximum permissible exposure issues with respect to millimeter wave communication, such as by 5th generation (5G) or new radio (NR) compliant user equipment. Accordingly, embodiments are configured to manage transceiver antenna element feed path components to mitigate thermal, power consumption, and/or MPE concerns. For example, a communication device configured in accordance with concepts herein may reduce or otherwise control temperatures of various components, device power consumption, and/or user exposure to millimeter wave energy, such as to improve user experience, avoid component failure, extend battery life, etc.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may be configured to receive a first configuration indicating for the UE to communicate with the base station using a set of receive ports. The UE may transmit, according to the first configuration in a first time interval associated with a first power state of the UE, sounding reference signals (SRSs) on a set of transmit ports corresponding to the set of receive ports. The UE may then communicate using less than all of the set of transmit ports for the SRSs based on determining to operate in a reduced power state. The UE may then receive, based on communicating using less than all of the set of transmit ports for the SRSs, a second configuration indicating for the UE to communicate with the base station using a first subset of receive ports.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication in a user equipment (UE) are described in which a cycle duration of an extended discontinuous reception (eDRX) cycle is determined. The UE enters a sleep state of the eDRX cycle and, based on the determination of the cycle duration, uses a first clock as a timer during the sleep state and uses a second clock as a timing calibrator during the sleep state. The first clock may have a lower power consumption and a higher frequency error, and the second clock may have a higher power consumption and a lower frequency error.
