Abstract:
A testing apparatus and method for characterizing the aerodynamic particle size of an atomized medicament emitted from a metered dose inhaler unit during testing with a particle characterization device in which the testing apparatus includes a first clamp of a first fixture in removable clamping and locking engagement with a throat, which is in fluid communication with a particle characterization device, a second clamp in removable clamping and locking engagement with a delivery device of the metered dose inhaler unit having a canister, containing atomized medicament, operatively loaded therein, an alignment mechanism that removably couples the first fixture to the second fixture at an aligned position therefore causing the throat to be in fluid communication with the delivery device, and an actuation assembly mounted to the first fixture having means that operatively thrusts the canister into the delivery device of the metered dose inhaler unit, thus releasing atomized medicament.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a precompression pump with a feature to evacuate air trapped in the pump chamber to thereby assist in priming the pump. In particular, the present invention relates to a precompression pump which uses mechanisms to create gaps of very small size to bridge two seals on a pump piston, in a way that the small size of the gaps allows the passage of trapped air, but because of the viscosity of any liquid in the pump chamber does not allow the passage of liquid past the seals on the pump piston. Flats which define a chord of the inner circumference of the cylinder wall can be used to create the appropriate gaps. In addition, the core creating the inner circumference can be photochemically etched to provide a roughened surface with asperities which create the appropriate gaps. The priming mechanisms preferably create air gaps around both seals of the pump piston.
Abstract:
A thermostat (10) includes a housing (11) having a control panel (13) with a plurality of manually selectable input elements or input keys (15) and a display panel (17) for displaying various functions of the programmable thermostat. The programmable thermostat also includes a temperature sensor (18), a microprocessor (19) having memory for storing a default program set of default temperature and time values and a desired program set of desired temperature and time values. The microprocessor may compare the desired program set to the default program set in order to calculate the efficiency of a HVAC system. The calculated efficiency is then displayed graphically on the display panel.
Abstract:
A method of preparing a faying surface of a component for fusion welding includes plastically deforming a surface layer adjacent a faying surface of said component. If necessary, the faying surface is machined smooth after the surface layer is plastically deformed.
Abstract:
This invention describes a method of producing a flat aluminum sheet product by providing an aluminum alloy stock, hot working the aluminum alloy stock through preheating and hot rolling, side sawing the aluminum alloy stock, subjecting the aluminum alloy stock to solution heat treatment, cold rolling the aluminum alloy stock to reduce its thickness by about 0.25% to about 5%, and finally stretching the aluminum alloy stock.
Abstract:
An intervertebral implant is provided for insertion between first and second vertebral bodies defining an intervertebral space. The intervertebral implant includes a first anchoring part for anchoring the intervertebral implant at the first vertebral body, a second anchoring part for anchoring the intervertebral implant at the second vertebral body, and a joint connecting the first and second anchoring parts. Joint elements of a first joint part are configured to mesh with respective ones of intermediate spaces of a second joint part and joint elements of the second joint part are configured to mesh with respective ones of intermediate spaces of the first joint part upon insertion of the intervertebral implant into the intervertebral space, thereby facilitating the tilting of the first and second anchoring parts in relation to one another.
Abstract:
With the subject invention, a pump is formed that generally includes a reservoir formed to accommodate at least one fluid dose, and a fluid-collecting chamber in fluid communication with the reservoir. The fluid-collecting chamber includes a dose-control portion which encompasses a volume defined by two dimensions. A first piston is disposed to urge fluid from the reservoir and at least into the dose-control portion. A second piston is disposed to reversibly slide within at least the dose-control portion of the fluid-collecting chamber. A nozzle is also provided which is located such that fluid displaced by the second piston from the dose-control portion is generally urged towards the nozzle. A check valve may be placed in the fluid path between the dose-control portion and the nozzle.
