    Abstract: A method for operating a laboratory system comprising laboratory instruments and a laboratory information system is presented. The method comprises grouping laboratory instruments into instrument cluster(s) and providing a cluster manager thereto. The plurality of laboratory instruments publishes their instrument resource descriptions. Each cluster manager maintains an inventory of cluster resources and publishes a list of processing capabilities of the instrument cluster. The laboratory information system assigns processing of test order(s) to instrument clusters. Each cluster manager assigns resources of the laboratory instruments corresponding to test orders from the laboratory information system in view of the inventory of cluster resources. Each laboratory instrument carries out the processing step(s) on the biological sample as instructed by the cluster manager.

    Abstract: Computer-implemented method for providing access control to a function of an analyzer is presented. A user's log-in data is received from a first data entry terminal. Information descriptive of a position of the first data entry terminal is obtained. It is determined whether the position of the first data entry terminal is within a physical operating (PO) area of the analyzer. A user activatable position sensitive (PS) GUI element is displayed on the first data entry terminal if the position of the first data entry terminal is determined to be within the PO area. The activatable PS GUI element triggers, upon activation, the execution of the function. The execution of the function comprises the execution of a physical action by the analyzer. The display of the user activatable PS GUI element is otherwise prohibited or a non-activatable PS GUI element indicative of the function is displayed.

    Abstract: A method implemented by an analysis system is presented. The method comprises receiving task data objects. At least some of the received task data objects are aggregated into aggregated task data object groups. All task data objects belonging to the same aggregated task data object group share at least one step of a task. A selectable aggregation GUI element is specified for each of the aggregated task data object groups. The aggregation GUI elements are displayed in an aggregated view on a graphical user interface. Upon selection of one of the aggregation GUI elements by a user, the aggregated task data object group represented by the selected aggregation GUI element is selected and the user access to program instructions for executing the shared step of the selected aggregated task data object group is automatically provided.
