Provided are an image encoding method and apparatus, and an image decoding method and apparatus. The image encoding method includes: obtaining a variation of a motion estimation error with respect to a homogeneity degree of a motion vector according to mergence, based on a motion vector of each of merged blocks obtained by merging adjacent blocks, motion vectors of the adjacent blocks included in each of the merged blocks, and motion vectors of neighboring blocks of each of the merged blocks; and determining, based on the obtained variation, a merged block having a smallest variation from among the merged blocks and whether to merge the adjacent blocks included in the determined merged block.

An image forming apparatus supporting peer to peer (P2P) connection includes a print engine to perform a print operation; a first wireless interface to connect the image forming apparatus to an access point (AP) of an infrastructured network; a second wireless interface to connect the image forming apparatus to an external mobile device by P2P; a soft AP module to allow the image forming apparatus to perform as an AP when the image forming apparatus is P2P connected; a dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP) server unit to allocate an internet protocol (IP) address to the mobile device that is P2P connected to the image forming apparatus; a soft AP activating unit to activate the soft AP module; and a control unit. If a discovery packet is received from the mobile device via P2P interface, the control unit is operable to control the image forming apparatus to process the discovery packet.

A near field communication (NFC) operating mode of an image forming apparatus may be set by determining a type of a job to be performed in the image forming apparatus via NFC tagging of a mobile device, determining a first NFC operating mode corresponding to the determined type of the job from among a plurality of NFC operating modes supported by an NFC module, setting the determined first NFC operating mode as an operating state of the NFC module, and performing the job by tagging the mobile device via NFC by using the set first NFC operating mode.

The method includes receiving a connection request from the WebDAV client to manage at least one of a file and a directory stored in a storage unit of the image forming apparatus; receiving login information from the WebDAV client, authenticating the received login information of the WebDAV client, receiving a WebDAV command to control the at least one of the file and the directory from the authenticated WebDAV client, and executing a process with respect to the at least one of the file and the directory with reference to the received WebDAV command.
