    Abstract: This application relates to systems and methods for stimulating hydrocarbon bearing formations using a downhole laser tool. An example laser perforation tool is for perforating a wellbore in a downhole environment within a hydrocarbon bearing formation. The laser perforation tool includes a plurality of perforation units disposed within an elongated body of the laser perforation tool. Each of the plurality of perforation units includes a laser beam redirection tool coupled to a laser head. The beam redirection tool alters a direction of an output laser beam.

    Abstract: An example laser system includes one or more optical transmission media that are part of an optical path originating at a laser generator configured to generate an input laser beam. The example laser system includes an analyzer for receiving the input laser beam and for characterizing at least a profile and energy of the input laser beam. The example laser system includes a circulator for receiving the input laser beam from the analyzer and for minimizing or eliminating reflections. The example laser system includes a beam transformer for receiving the input laser beam from the circulator and for altering at least one property of the input laser beam thereby generating an output laser beam. The example laser system includes a writing head for altering at least one optical property of the beam transformer.

    Abstract: Apparatus and methods for spatially orienting a subterranean pressure pulse to a hydrocarbon-bearing formation are provided. The apparatus includes an injection body with a fixed shape, where the injection body is operable to hold an exothermic reaction component prior to triggering an exothermic reaction of the exothermic reaction component, and where the injection body maintains the fixed shape during and after triggering of the exothermic reaction component. The injection body includes a chemical injection port, where the chemical injection port is operable to feed components of the exothermic reaction component to the injection body. The injection body includes a reinforced plug, where the reinforced plug is operable to direct a pressure pulse generated by the exothermic reaction component within the injection body to a perforation to generate a spatially-oriented fracture, where spatial orientation of the spatially-oriented fracture is pre-determined.

    Abstract: An example laser tool that operates within a wellbore is configured to combine a purging medium and a laser beam. The laser tool includes an integrator configured to receive the laser beam from a laser head and to combine the laser beam and the purging medium. A conduit is configured to generate a laminar flow from the purging medium and to produce an output that includes the laminar flow and the laser beam. The output is directed by the conduit towards a target within the wellbore. At least part of the laser tool is configured for rotation to cause the output to rotate during application of the output to the target.

    Abstract: An example plasma tool is configured to operate within a wellbore of a hydrocarbon-bearing rock formation. The plasma tool includes a laser head that includes one or more optical components. The laser head is configured to receive one or more laser beams at the one or more optical components and to output the one or more laser beams via the one or more optical components. The plasma tool includes a laser beam generator to generate the one or more laser beams. The laser beam is configured to induce a plasma in a volume of fluid. The plasma is for producing shock waves in the volume of fluid. The plasma tool includes a deformable acoustic mirror that confines the volume of fluid at least in part. The deformable acoustic mirror is configured to receive the shock waves to produce destructive reflected waves in the volume of fluid.
