Abstract: A method for configuring transmission signals is disclosed. The method includes receiving a signal from a downhole tool in a wellbore. The signal may include a telemetry portion and a noise portion. The method also includes reproducing the telemetry portion based at least partially on the signal. Further, the method includes subtracting the telemetry portion from the signal. The method includes estimating, based at least partially on the subtraction, the noise portion of the signal. The method also includes altering a transmission configuration of the downhole tool based at least partially on the noise portion of the signal.

Abstract: A system and method for downhole signal enhancement. The system includes a downhole tool having one or more sensors coupled thereto. The one or more sensors may measure internal pressure and one or more parameters selected from the group consisting of external pressure, pressure sensor temperature, weight on bit, torque on bit, bending moment, roll gyro, tangential acceleration, radial acceleration, and axial acceleration. A noise estimator may be coupled to the downhole tool and estimate a downhole noise component in the one or more parameters. A telemetry modulator may be coupled to the downhole tool and generate a signal that includes the estimated downhole noise component and a telemetry component. The downhole noise component in the signal may be reduced based at least partially upon the estimate.

Abstract: Wireless communication and electromagnetic telemetry between various surface or downhole devices may be provided using two or more dipole antennas. The dipole antennas may be formed, for example, by electrically isolating, for each electric dipole antenna, two electrically conductive portions. The two electrically conductive portions are part of a downhole casing, a downhole liner, a completion, a production tube, or a downhole tool. The two or more electric dipole antennas are disposed in different sections of a completed well, in one or more lateral wells, in different completed wells, or in any combination of those. An electromagnetic signal is transmitting from at least one of the two or more dipole antennas and received at any other of the two or more dipole antennas, thereby providing telemetry or wireless communication between the dipole antennas of the petrophysical devices.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a method to determine a clock signal when separate clocks are used. In one embodiment, a disciplined clock system comprising an update subsystem and a synthesis subsystem is provided. A first clock phase estimate is provided to the update subsystem and used, along with the update subsystem, to determine a frequency offset estimate and a phase offset estimate. The clock signal is determining using the frequency offset estimate, the phase offset estimate, and the synthesis subsystem. Alternatively, two clocks can be synchronized by generating a signal associated with a first clock; modulating the signal; transmitting the modulated signal; receiving the modulated signal by a receiver associated with a second clock; correlating the received signal; determining the time of arrival of the received signal; determining the time difference between the two clocks; and synchronizing the two clocks.
