    Abstract: Systems and methods for estimating tool string depth can include a framework that utilizes machine learning to determine depth and depth uncertainties for the tool string. The framework can take as inputs a casing collar locator signal, a depth, a cable speed, and a timestamp. Then a collar detector function, which can be a machine learning model, can detect a collar and output a certainty level associated with the detection. A collar identifier function can combine that certainty level with a prior collar map and other prior parameters to identify a particular collar and that collar's depth. Then a fusion function can output a depth and depth uncertainty for the collar or for the tool string.

    Abstract: A method for making gyroscopic azimuth measurements includes estimating a pitch angle and a roll angle of a gyroscopic surveying tool in a wellbore; determining a measurement duration for each of a plurality of gyroscope measurements from the estimated pitch and roll angles; making each of the plurality of gyroscope measurements at the determined measurement duration when the gyroscope is disposed at a corresponding plurality of rotational positions in the tool housing; and computing an azimuth of the wellbore from the plurality of gyroscope measurements.

    Abstract: An acoustic communications network includes acoustic modems that exchange messages on an acoustic communications medium, such as tubing deployed in a wellbore. The acoustic communications medium is characterized by an acoustic transfer function having a plurality of passbands and a plurality of stopbands. The messages are communicated by encoding the message into a plurality of symbols representing the message and distributing the plurality of symbols across a bandwidth of a wideband acoustic signal that spans at least one passband and at least one stopband of the acoustic transfer function.
