A method and apparatus for transmitting a Forward Error Correction (FEC) packet block including a plurality of FEC packets in a multimedia system are provided. The method includes generating a plurality of first FEC packet blocks by performing a first FEC encoding on a plurality of source symbols, each of the plurality of first FEC packet blocks including at least one source packet and at least one repair packet for repair of each of the at least one source packet, generating a second FEC packet block by performing a second FEC encoding on the plurality of first FEC packet blocks, the second FEC packet block including at least one repair packet for the plurality of first FEC packet blocks, and transmitting the second FEC packet block that includes, in header information of each of the at least one source packet and the at least one repair packet.

A method is provided for transmitting an Application Layer-Forward Error Correction (AL-FEC) packet by an AL-FEC packet transmission apparatus in a multimedia communication system. AL-FEC packets are generated. The AL-FEC packets are transmitted to an AL-FEC packet reception apparatus. Each of the AL-FEC packets includes an AL-FEC codeword symbol and an AL-FEC header, and the AL-FEC codeword symbol is one of AL-FEC codeword symbols included in an AL-FEC codeword block. The AL-FEC header includes order information indicating an order of an AL-FEC codeword symbol into which the AL-FEC header is inserted among the AL-FEC codeword symbols included in the AL-FEC codeword block.
Abstract:
A method for encoding a packet in a broadcasting system supporting an Internet Protocol (IP)-based multimedia service is provided. The method includes dividing a data stream into data payloads, generating a Motion Picture Expert Group (MPEG) Media Transport (MMT) packet by adding a first header to each of the data payloads, and generating a source packet by adding an MMT packet header to the MMT packet and performing Forward Error Correction (FEC) encoding on the header-added MMT packet. The MMT packet header includes type information of the MMT packet.

A method for transmitting a packet by a signal transmission apparatus in a broadcasting and communication system is provided. The method includes generating a Forward Error Correction (FEC) packet including an FEC parity packet and an FEC source packet by encoding source payloads using an FEC encoding scheme, and transmitting the FEC packet to a signal reception apparatus, wherein the FEC parity packet is generated using a plurality of Source Sub-Blocks (SSBs) which are generated using specific source payloads selected corresponding to a preset SSB generation scheme from among the source payloads included in a source block, and wherein the FEC source packet is generated using the source payloads.

An apparatus to detect coordinates in a pen-based display device is provided. When an electronic pen is placed at a specific position on a display, an image of a pixel group corresponding to a specific position is captured through a camera, a reference point is detected in the pixel group by processing the captured image of the pixel group, values of a plurality of coordinate indications and a plurality of parity indications, it is determined whether an error has been detected by calculating a predetermined error detection formula using the determined values of the coordinate indications and the parity indications, and final coordinates of the electronic pen are determined by applying a predetermined coordinates calculation rule to the determined values of the coordinate indications and the parity indications, if no error has been detected in the determined values of the coordinate indications and the parity indications.

An encoding apparatus and a method of encoding a source block including different types of data payloads are provided. The method includes dividing the source block into a predetermined number M of sub blocks, generating a predetermined number P1 of base parity payloads that correspond to each of the predetermined number M of sub blocks by performing first Forward Error Correction (FEC) encoding on each of the predetermined number M of sub blocks, generating a predetermined number P2 of extended parity payloads that correspond to the source block by performing second FEC encoding on a particular type of data payloads among data payloads that make up the source block, and configuring a source coded block based on a predetermined number N of sub coded blocks including the predetermined number M of sub blocks and the predetermined number P1 of base parity payloads generated.

Various embodiments of the present disclosure propose an apparatus and method for supporting a service for one program through a channel change in a digital broadcasting system. To this end, a broadcast providing device may monitor whether a channel switching event occurs while providing a service for a first program on a first channel on the basis of a predetermined broadcast program schedule. When the channel switching event occurs, before the service for the first program on the first channel ends according to the predetermined broadcast program schedule, the broadcast providing device may transmit, to a broadcast consumer device, connection control information required to continue the service for the first program on a second channel The broadcast consumer device may perform service switching on the basis of the connection control information.

The method includes dividing each of the data streams into data payloads and adding a header for discriminating between the N data streams to each of the data payloads, determining, from the source packet flow, an FEC source formed by source packets generated from an (N−M) number of data streams, distinguishing at least one source packet block, generating a source symbol block from the at least one distinguished source packet block, generating a repair symbol block formed by at least one repair symbol, determining a repair flow ID for identifying a repair flow formed by the repair symbols generated from the FEC source packet flow, generating an FEC repair packet by adding a header to each of the repair symbols of the repair flow, and transmitting the source packet and the FEC repair packet.
