摘要： Automatic and assisted playlist generation is accomplished by collecting data from users of a world-wide music information system. Attributes of the recordings listened to by users are extracted from data collected when the users access the music information system. The attributes are correlated with other attributes in the system to verify data accuracy. Users can specify a set of attributes of their music collection for automatic generation of a playlist. The playlist can then be further edited, even on devices with a limited display and a few buttons designed for playback of recordings, by re-mapping the functions of the buttons for playlist generation.

摘要： A system and a method are disclosed for performing a search with the assistance of a computer. The system may assign a unique identifier to a user, to a query submitted to the system by the user, to a human searcher that may respond to the query, and to a result produced by a human searcher in response to the query. These unique identifiers may be stored in a database, and associated with one another. The system may receive a query from the user during a first communication session, and present the query to the searcher to perform a search responsive to the query. The searcher may produce search results and transmit the results to the system during the first communication session. The system may receive the search results from the searcher during the first communication session, and forward the results to the user. Because the system maintains a database of unique identifiers for each original query associated with the unique identifier of the posing user and responding searcher, the system may establish an anonymous communication channel between the user and the searcher during the initial session when the query is posed and answered, and also during follow-up sessions that may occur in the future.

摘要： An archival system for voice mail messages includes recording devices, such as cassette recorders, compact disc recorders and DAT recorders. The archival system may be directly connected to one or more voice mail systems, or connectable via the public switched telephone network, so that the archival system can serve several voice mail systems. Voice mail messages identified by users to be archived are stored in a transfer queue in a voice mail system. The voice mail system performs an outdialing operation to connect to the archival system and transmits the voice mail messages, together with message identifying information, such as preferred storage medium and an optional header identifying the message, to a storage queue in the archival system. The archival system instructs an operator to mount a tape or other storage medium in a selected device and then records the voice mail messages on a removable storage medium.
