摘要： A dog sub is provided for use in an assembly for running liners with a weight-set packer. The dog sub allows rotation of the work string in an effort to set down weight on the dogs. The dogs are allowed to move radially outwardly by a pick-up force from the surface whereupon a set-down force, the dogs engage the setting sleeve on the weight-set packer. The dog sub is provided with a shear pin or other mechanism that breaks at about the requisite set force necessary to set the weight-set packer. When the assembly is retrieved to the surface, the breakage of the shear mechanism within the dog sub indicates to the surface personnel that an appropriate amount of set-down force has been applied to the weight-set packer below. Each of the dogs has an insert which rides on the polished surface of the packer setting sleeve to protect it as the dog sub is raised to allow the dogs to expand for setting the packer.

摘要： The present invention provides an apparatus for anchoring of equipment within the interior bore of a section of a subterranean well conduit, and particularly for insertion of such equipment. The apparatus comprises a cylindrical housing and a conically tapered surface around the exterior of the housing which is radially larger at its upper end and tapered to a radially smaller lower end. A seal body is provided which is carried exteriorly around the housing and has its interior tapered end reverse to that of the conically tapered surface around the housing and which is selectively longitudinally movable relative to the housing from a first, unset position on the conduit section to a second, set position on the conduit section and radially expandable during the movement relative to the housing. Anchoring means are carried exteriorly around the body for securing the apparatus to the conduit section against upward and downward movement of the apparatus. A bi-directional anchoring system is provided such that force received on or through either end of the apparatus drives the apparatus into further anchoring engagement with the conduit section. A metal-to-metal primary and elastomeric secondary seal system are provided on the apparatus with the secondary elatomeric seal having zero extrusion and slip body having a ductility of from between about 1% and about 15%.

摘要： The invention comprises a tool for launching objects downhole, such as one or more plugs in a desired sequence. The movements leading to the release of the individual plugs are regulated by virtue of displacement of oil through at least one orifice. The wiper plugs are retained in the tool until such time as they are physically displaced beyond the lower end of the tool. The biased retainers holding the plugs within the tools are released upon a predetermined movement of the plugs beyond the lower end of the tool. If the retaining mechanism for the plug does not automatically release upon sufficient extension of the wiper plug from the tool, a pressure assist can be used to launch any given plug. The darts used to move an actuating piston to release the plugs are separated from the plugs and retained in the tool so that they do not need to be drilled out later.

摘要： An assembly for a production string with a downhole pump is disclosed which makes use of the polished bore in the top of the liner already installed in the wellbore. Lugs on the assembly align themselves with longitudinal grooves in the top of the liner assembly as an antirotation feature for when the downhole pump is operated. A signaling assembly, involving a collet which can be ultimately released, gives the surface personnel the feedback they need to know that the assembly has been set in the proper place in the top of the liner string, as opposed to another location in the wellbore. Seals, preferably stacks of opposed chevron seals, can be used to bridge the gap between the assembly and the seal bore at the top of the liner.

摘要： The present invention provides an apparatus for anchoring of equipment within the interior bore of a section of a subterranean well conduit, and particularly for insertion of such equipment. The apparatus comprises a cylindrical housing and a conically tapered surface around the exterior of the housing which is radially larger at its upper end and tapered to a radially smaller lower end. A seal body is provided which is carried exteriorly around the housing and has its interior tapered end reverse to that of the conically tapered surface around the housing and which is selectively longitudinally movable relative to the housing from a first, unset position on the conduit section to a second, set position on the conduit section and radially expandable during the movement relative to the housing. Anchoring means are carried exteriorly around the body for securing the apparatus to the conduit section against upward and downward movement of the apparatus. A bi-directional anchoring system is provided such that force received on or through either end of the apparatus drives the apparatus into further anchoring engagement with the conduit section. A metal-to-metal primary and elastomeric secondary seal system are provided on the apparatus with the secondary elastomeric seal having zero extrusion and slip body having a ductility of from between about 1% and about 15%.

摘要： A slip gripping mechanism is shown for supporting a string of cylindrical conduit within the interior bore of a circumscribing well conduit. A cone retaining ring engages a plurality of floating cone segments which define spaced longitudinal slots on the outside of the cylindrical conduit. Vertically shiftable slips are carried in the slots by side edges which engage mating profiles formed in the slots. The slots form guideways for the slips for shifting the slips upwardly and outwardly between a set position engaging the circumscribing conduit and an unset position. Each slip has an arcuate lower surface and a selected width to thickness ratio to allow controlled flexing of the slip in the direction of the circumscribing conduit as the slip moves to the set position.

摘要： A latch and retrieving assembly is shown for use with a well tool having an axial bore which includes an external landing shoulder and an annular latch recess which is spaced below the landing shoulder. The assembly includes a mandrel which is inserted in to the bore of the well tool. The mandrel has a lower abutment and a collet member carried about the mandrel above the abutment. The collet member includes a carrier ring which is seatable on the shoulder and a plurality of fingers which depend from the carrier ring and which terminate in radially enlarged tips which are disposed in registration with the recess when the carrier ring is seated on the landing shoulder. The tips cooperate with the lower abutment to latch into and to be released from the recess respectively in response to downward movement of the mandrel. A special profile formed on the mandrel lower abutment provides latching engagement and subsequent release of the assembly upon downward movement of the mandrel relative to the collet.

摘要： A running tool particularly useful for running liners on coiled tubing is disclosed. A torque-transmitting outer sleeve is employed which initially traps the collets. The collets are engaged to the liner by relative mechanical movement and thereafter lock in a secured position to the liner, regardless of whether the liner is placed in tension or compression by the running tool. Release is accomplished by letting down weight on the running tool, coupled with hydraulic pressure to shear a pin securing the collet mechanism. Upon such a hydraulic release with the pin sheared, the outer torque sleeve shifts downwardly to prevent relatching. Torque is transmitted through the outer torque sleeved and not through the latching collets. A snap ring can optionally be inserted to further ensure that the tool will not relatch after release. If, for any reason, the tool does not release in the normal manner, a twist off release feature is provided.

摘要： A setting tool allows setting a hydraulic liner hanger in a deviated wellbore. Subsequent to setting the liner hanger through pressure developed within the setting tool, the setting tool is reconfigured to allow full-bore passage therethrough. In the preferred embodiment, the flow communication to the liner hanger is interrupted after it is set so that the setting tool can have a full-bore clearance for passage of cement wipers or other devices and that pressure can then be applied in the setting tool to complete the cementing operations for the liner, as well as to actuate any casing or isolation packers.
