    摘要: Aromatic/aliphatic nitriles having the formula:Ar--A--CN (I)wherein Ar is phenyl or substituted phenyl and A is a direct chemical bond or a hydrocarbon having from 1 to 6 carbon atoms, are conveniently prepared by heating to a temperature ranging from about 450.degree. C. to about 550.degree. C. a formamide or formanilide having the formula:Ar--A--NHCHO (II)or an amide having the formulaAr--A--CONH.sub.2 (III)in the presence of a fluorinated siliceous catalyst, said catalyst having been prepared by (i) impregnating a particulate silica containing from about 0.05 to about 2% by weight of fluorine, expressed as F.sup.- bonded to the silica, with a dilute aqueous solution of hydrofluoric acid, said hydrofluoric acid solution having a concentration in HF of less than about 5% by weight, and the ratio by weight of the hydrofluoric acid contained in said aqueous solution thereof to the silica being less than about 5%, followed by (ii) drying the catalyst thus impregnated.

    摘要: Nitrogen oxides, NO.sub.x, are depleted/removed from oxygen-containing gas streams comprising same, by contacting an admixture of ammonia and such gas streams, at elevated temperatures, with a catalyst which comprises a catalytically active metallic oxide deposited on a porous alumina support, said support comprising a volume of pores having diameters larger than 1000 A in excess of 25 cm.sup.3 /100 g, a volume of pores having diameters larger than 300 A in excess of 40 cm.sup.3 /100 g, a total pore volume of from about 80 cm.sup.3 /100 g to 120 cm.sup.3 /100 g, and a surface area of less than 160 m.sup.2 /g, said catalytically active metallic oxide being an oxide of a metal selected from the group consisting of vanadium, iron and cobalt, and said catalytically active metal oxide comprising from 0.5 to 20% by weight of the catalyst.

    摘要: The invention relates to a new highly reactive alumina and the method of preparing it. The alumina is characterized by an amorphous structure and a specific surface of greater than 600 m.sup.2 /g. It is prepared by thermal decomposition of the double carbonate of aluminum and ammonium of the formula AlNH.sub.4 CO.sub.3 (OH).sub.2 at a temperature of between about 200.degree. and 500.degree. C.Aluminum hydroxychlorides of the formula Al.sub.2 (OH).sub.x Cl.sub.6-x can be prepared from it.
