摘要: An article made of a gamma titanium aluminide alloy is welded, as for example in the weld repair of surface cracks, by removing foreign matter from the area to be welded, first stress relieving the article, cooling the entire article to a welding temperature of from about 1000.degree. F. to about 1400.degree. F., welding a preselected region in an inert atmosphere at the welding temperature, and second stress relieving the article. Welding is preferably accomplished by striking an arc in the preselected region so as to locally melt the alloy in the preselected region, providing a filler metal having the same composition as the gamma titanium aluminide alloy of the article, and feeding the filler metal into the arc so that the filler metal is melted and fused with the article to form a weldment upon solidification.

摘要: A gamma titanium aluminide alloy article is produced from a piece of cast gamma titanium aluminide alloy by consolidating the gamma titanium aluminide alloy piece at a temperature above the eutectoid to reduce porosity therein, preferably by hot isostatic pressing. The piece is first heat treated at a temperature above the eutectoid for a time sufficient to form a structure of gamma grains plus lamellar colonies of alpha and gamma phases, and thereafter second heat treated at a temperature below the eutectoid to grow gamma grains within the colony structure, thereby reducing the effective grain size of the colony structure. There may follow an additional heat treatment just below the alpha transus to reform any remaining colony structure to produce a structure having isolated alpha-two laths within gamma grains.

摘要: An apparatus and method for automatically blowing down a boiler are disclosed, wherein the discharged sediment-containing water is drawn off to an intermediate receiver or holding tank for a short interval and then sent through a heat exchanger which is isolated for the boiler. The condition of the water in the boiler is continuously monitored by conductivity sensors to begin each blowdown cycle when the conductivity reaches a predetermined level. A three-way valve connected to the bottom blowdown line of the boiler is opened automatically and the blowdown water is forced out of the boiler under the steam pressure to the receiver and sent by means of the same valve to a heat exchanger. This is accomplished by allowing steam from the boiler to enter the receiver to displace the blowdown water, and sweep non-condensibles therefrom. The flow of blowdown water through the heat exchanger is strictly regulated to meet design requirements and at the same time, the receiver tank is isolated from the boiler and fresh water is introduced into the boiler to replace that which was removed by the blowdown. The method is applicable to installation on a multi-boiler system. One feature of the invention is a by-pass from the top of the receiver tank to the bottom of the boiler. The by-pass line includes a one-way check valve allowing flow only from the top of the receiver to the boiler. With no intervening valves this line serves as an over pressure relief outlet from the tank to the boiler which is protected by pressure relief devices that open at or below the maximum safe working pressure of the boiler and the receiving tank. This precludes accidental damage of the boiler. This method of relief does not provide any flow path from the bottom of the boiler to atmosphere as would be the case if a conventional relief valve were on the receiver.

摘要: Methods and systems of the present invention are provided for performing proxy control functions in an environment including one or more work machines. Such methods and systems may leverage one or more gateways to serve as a proxy for one or more distinct modules. A gateway, located in a work machine, may be programmed with proxy logic that performs functions associated with certain modules used in a work machine environment. The gateway may monitor a data link and retrieve broadcasted messages. The broadcasted messages may include source and/or destination module address identifiers. The gateway may retrieve messages from the data link based on a determination that the message is destined for a module for which the gateway serves as a proxy. The gateway may route a retrieved message, using a mapping structure, to the appropriate proxy logic that performs functions associated with the destination module.

摘要: A method and system are provided to perform a process of managing communications in an environment including a mobile work machine having one or more on-board data links connected to one or more on-board modules and a gateway and including one or more off-board data links connected to one or more off-board systems and the gateway. The process is performed by the gateway and includes receiving a request generated by a source device and transmitted on a first data link. In one embodiment, the first data link may be either one of the on-board data links and one of the off-board data links. Based on the request, the gateway selectively executes a server application that performs a server process. Further, the gateway identifies a destination device associated with the request, configures the request to a format compatible with the destination device, and provides the formatted request to the destination device. Additionally, the gateway receives a response to the formatted request generated by the destination device, configures the response to a format compatible with the first data link, and sends the response to a target device over the first data link.

摘要: A fixture and method for repairing superalloy articles. The fixture ideally holds the article in place if repairs are made. An interface between the fixture and the article facilitate transfer of heat between the article and the fixture so that the article can be differentially heat treated. A portion of the article extends from the fixture. This portion of the article, which may be repaired within the fixture or may be repaired elsewhere, is solution heat treated while in the fixture so that the area extending from the fixture is solutioned, while heat is transferred from the article through the fixture, thereby preventing the temperature of the portion of the article within the fixture from being elevated so as to modify its microstructure. The solutioned portion can then be heat treated, while in the fixture, to precipitation harden it as desired.
