摘要: There is disclosed a method of joining Ni-base heat-resisting alloys which comprises forming, under an inert atmosphere, an aluminum layer on at least surfaces to be joined of a constructional member which has been divided into a plural number of parts composed of a Ni-base heat-resisting alloy reinforced by a .gamma.' phase in Ni.sub.3 Al system, followed by heating the parts so that said aluminum is dispersed in said Ni-base heat-resisting alloys, the joining portion (joint) contains substantially no .beta.-NiAl phase and a .gamma.'-Ni.sub.3 Al phase is dispersed therein to join the parts. The joint provided by the method according to the present invention has been improved in its strength and corrosion resistance at a high temperature. Further, the method according to the present invention can be carried out with a high degree of freedom in supplying a joining filler metal.

摘要: A method of forming thin, uniform braze joints is effected through the use of curtain coating. Braze powder is admixed with a liquid polymeric binder to form a slurry. The slurry is forced through the slots in a curtain coating head and deposited on at least one of the metal surfaces to be bonded together. The method has particular utility for bonding fin/plate sections of a heat exchanger where the fins have a U-shaped cross section. The slurry is deposited on the top portion of the fin and the side portion of the fin and wiped from the top portion leaving braze material primarily on the side wall portion. When the plates are contacted to the fins and heating performed, a bond is effected with maximum plate-to-fin contact for high heat transfer and a strong braze joint.

摘要: A welding apparatus for internally welding sleeves to tubes comprises a central shaft with an electrode attached thereto which are capable of being inserted in a tubular member. A plurality of remotely actuable seals are disposed on the welding apparatus and around the electrode for establishing a sealed chamber in the sleeve in which the welding may take place. The welding apparatus is capable of supplying an inert shielding gas to the sealed chamber for pressurizing the sealed chamber during the welding process and while the electrode completes a weld around the inner circumference of the sleeve. The apparatus may also be used to internally braze the sleeve to the tube.

摘要: A pistol grip brazing tool utilizes an insulative frame to mount a pair of elongated support elements, one fixed and the other reciprocating. The support elements, in turn, mount at their front ends a pair of electrodes in opposed relation and at their rear ends brazing cable connectors. Conductive links affixed to the support elements are adapted with interconnecting conductive cable lengths such as to conduct brazing current between the electrodes and the cable connectors in shunt relation with the support elements. The flow of brazing current is controlled to insure that brazing operations are performed without undue arcing.

摘要: The invention provides a novel method for firmly bonding a porous body, e a sintered body prepared by the powder metallurgical techniques with a metal powder, and a fusion-made body, e.g. an iron casting body, hitherto undertaken by the method of pressure welding or diffusion bonding. The inventive method utilizes the principle of infiltration and an infiltrater material is placed at the contacting portion between the porous body and the fusion-made body and heated at a temperature to exceed the melting point of the infiltrater material in vacuum so that the molten infiltrater material is infiltrated into the porous body leading to strong bonding upon solidification to have the porous body and the fusion-made body integrally bonded together.

摘要: High-strength metal joints are formed by a combined weld-braze technique. A hollow cylindrical metal member is forced into an undersized counterbore in another metal member with a suitable braze metal disposed along the bottom of the counterbore. Force and current applied to the members in an evacuated chamber results in the concurrent formation of the weld along the sides of the counterbore and a braze along the bottom of the counterbore in one continuous operation.

摘要: Ferrous parts are bonded together in a copper brazing furnace under suitable temperatures and a furnace atmosphere which, in the absence of parts, is comprised of at least 90% nitrogen, up to 7% combined hydrogen and carbon monoxide with hydrogen being greater than 50% of the total of CO and H.sub.2 and having a dew point between approximately -40.degree. to +10.degree. C. In the preheat section of a continuous belt furnace or the like, the dew point may range between -20.degree. to +10.degree. C. while in the furnace hot zone, the dew point is maintained between approximately -40.degree. to -10.degree. C. A brazing paste which is preferably a combined copper and 25-75% copper oxide paste is utilized. With such furnace atmosphere and paste composition, clean part surfaces, which permit superior wetting by molten copper and thus acceptable copper flow and penetration into the joint being bonded, are obtainable. The furnace atmospheres utilized enable increased life to be obtained from furnace materials such as brick insulation, muffles, conveyor belts, and heating elements.
