摘要: A cooling system for use with high-power x-ray tubes. The cooling system includes a dielectric coolant disposed in the x-ray tube housing so as to absorb heat dissipated by the stator and other electrical components, as well as absorbing some heat from the x-ray tube itself. The cooling system also includes a coolant circuit employing a pressurized water/glycol solution as a coolant. Pressurization of the water/glycol solution is achieved by way of an accumulator which, by pressurizing the coolant to a desired level, raises its boiling point and capacity to absorb heat. A coolant pump circulates the pressurized coolant through a fluid passageway defined in an aperture of the x-ray tube and through a target cooling block disposed proximate to the x-ray tube in the x-ray tube housing, so as to position the coolant to absorb some of the heat generated at the aperture by secondary electrons, and the heat generated in the target cooling block by the target anode of the x-ray tube. The target cooling block is in contact with the dielectric fluid so that some of the heat absorbed by the dielectric coolant is transferred to the coolant flowing through the target cooling block. The heated coolant is then passed through an air/water radiator where a flow of air serves to remove some heat from the coolant. Thus cooled, the coolant then exits the radiator to repeat the cycle.

摘要: A graphite-backed metallic x-ray tube target assembly has a rotary shaft which passes through the central opening of the annular graphite substrate and is secured to the metallic disk-shaped target. In order to protect the shaft from heat radiated from the graphite substrate, at least one tubular heat shield is brazed to the target and disposed between and separate from the inner wall of the annular graphite substrate and the outer peripheral surface of the shaft. For further protection, a tubular heat shielding member may be disposed inside the other heat shield, between the outer heat shield and the shaft. In order to minimize the heat conduction from the outer heat shield to the inner heat shielding member, they are mostly separated and attached to each other only along their bottom edges where they are tack-welded together at mutually separated positions such that the inner heat shielding member is supported entirely by the outer heat shield.

摘要: A continuous passive motion (CPM) device includes a foot support plate and a toe plate. The foot support plate pivots back and forth, driven by a rod connected to a motor. A toe plate pivots separately from the foot support plate, and receives its motive power solely from the foot support plate. The engagement of a pair of pins, one pin connected to the foot support plate and the other pin connected to the toe plate, causes the toe plate to pivot at the desired moment. The toe plate pivots in the opposite direction from that of the foot support plate, and pivots only when the foot support plate reaches a predetermined angle. At other times, the toe plate does not move. The latter arrangement enhances the level of comfort felt by the patient, by increasing the effective angle of flexing of the foot, while limiting the amount of flexing of the heel to a comfortable level. The positioning of the pins determines through how many degrees the toe plate pivots for each degree of rotation of the foot support plate.

摘要: A fuel vapor recovery canister having a housing including an outer wall with spaced-apart vapor ports. Adsorbent material in the housing adsorbs and stores fuel vapors entering one vapor port, or under other circumstances releases such vapors for exit through one of the ports. In one embodiment the housing has interleaved baffle plates between the ports, which force vapors entering one port to flow along a serpentine path, giving maximum exposure of the vapor to the adsorbent material. In a second embodiment, a helical partition is provided, similarly forcing vapor flow to occur along a serpentine path.

摘要: An anchor spreader apparatus and method for moving rail anchors, the anchor spreader apparatus has a mounting member, a rail clamp assembly and an anchor-engaging assembly. With the rail clamp assembly properly clamped to the rail, the anchor spreader apparatus is maintained in a proper and controlled position relative to the anchor as the anchor-engaging assembly is rotatably moved relative to the rail clamp assembly. The anchor spreader apparatus may be paired with a spike-pulling apparatus, whereby the anchor spreader apparatus and the spike-pulling apparatus simultaneously move the rail anchor and pull respective spikes.

摘要: A cooling tower water management system is disclosed. A water treatment module is positioned in a water circulation line in a cooling tower. The water treatment module comprises a treatment cell having a cathodic tube and an anodic rod within the tube. A controller and power supply create a pulsed electrical potential across water in the treatment cell from the cathode to the anode to perform electrolysis on the water. Suspended and dissolved solids in the water are built up on a surface within the treatment cell. The controller can initiate a regeneration cycle to remove the built up solids from the surface. The regeneration comprises switching the electrical contact from the anode to a portion of the cathodic tube.

摘要: “A cooling disk to transfer heat from an anode to a circulated coolant. The cooling disk includes an annular body that defines an aperture and includes extended surfaces. The cooling disk resides in a fluid passageway defined by the anode, and contacts the anode so as to transfer heat from the anode to a coolant circulated through the fluid passageway by an external cooling unit. The coolant passes through a coolant supply passageway which includes a converging portion that serves to accelerate the coolant as it exits the coolant supply passageway. The accelerated coolant passes through the aperture and contacts a flow diverter disposed in the fluid passageway, as well as the extended surfaces of the cooling disk, so as to remove heat therefrom. The flow diverter transmits heat from the anode to the coolant. The coolant enters the coolant return passageway and returns to the external cooling unit.”

摘要: A device for the recovery of fuel vapors originating in the fuel system of a vehicle, particularly at the gas tank thereof or in the carburetor float bowl. In one arrangement, a fuel vapor line connects the fuel tank to an input port of a fuel vapor storage and recovery canister containing activated carbon or charcoal, with another port thereof, referred to as a "purge" port, being connected with either the engine intake manifold or else a vacuum port of the carburetor. Carried by the canister is a self-regulating electric heater assemblage adapted to heat air flowing into the canister through a large air port, thereby to also heat the charcoal. When the vehicle is idle, fumes from the gasoline tank can enter the input port of the canister to be adsorbed and stored by the charcoal. When the vehicle is operated, vacuum from the intake manifold draws air into the canister, causing the heated charcoal to release its stored fuel which is then burned in the engine. The heating action hastens the release of the stored fuel from the charcoal. Otherwise at low temperatures this release would occur very slowly. The end result is less pollution emitted into the atmosphere from the vehicle's fuel system.

摘要: A rail vehicle having a single frame assembly and a movable platform coupled thereto is provided. The rail vehicle indexes, i.e. advances intermittently, along railroad rails. The movable platform advances in a single direction at a generally steady speed as the rail vehicle indexes along a railroad. The platform is the floor of, or a base for, a cabin preferably having a seat, roof support, and controls for the operator. The platform rides longitudinally with the machine on rollers or slides, thus separating the operator and controls from the rest of the machine. Thus, while the rail vehicle moves in an abrupt stop-and-go manner, the platform and the operator move generally consistently in a single direction.
