The co-location of electrolysis and high shear mixing and or cavitation has demonstrated the ability to cause advanced oxidation reactions and advanced reduction reactions in fluid systems such as water with both dissolved and suspended solids, and hydrocarbon with and without water emulsion.

摘要: An asymmetric system containing a first conductive polymer modified with a redox active moiety and a second conductive polymer modified with a surfactant is used for the separation of organic compounds from aqueous solutions. The asymmetric system has complementary hydrophobicity tunability in response to electrochemical modulations. For example, both materials are hydrophobic in their respective neutral states, therefore exhibiting affinity toward organic compounds. Application of a mild potential drives the desorption of the organic compounds and regeneration of the materials. The asymmetric system can be used in a cyclic fashion, through repeated electrical discharge or shorting of the two electrodes to program the capture of organics from a feed solution, and application of a potential to stimulate the release of the adsorbed organics.

摘要: A monitored inline hard water processing assembly for conditioning hard water includes a cannister, which is cathodic, a disc, and a rod, which is anodic. The disc is removably couplable to a top of the cannister. The disc has a pair of channels positioned therethrough, each of which is in fluidic communication with an interior space defined by the cannister. The rod is removably couplable to the disc so that the rod is electrically insulated from the disc and extends into the interior space. A monitoring unit, which is electrically coupled to the cannister and the rod, is operationally couplable to a source of electrical current to provide a flow of direct current through the rod, the cannister, and water flowing therethrough. The monitoring unit comprises an indicator, which can indicate at least two resistance states of the rod.

The circuit has a particle recovery branch having, in the direction of circulation of the cleaning medium and downstream from the reactor, a separating mechanism for subtracting the particles from the cleaning medium leaving the reactor, separately obtaining a mass of recovered particles and a current of used cleaning liquid free of particles, and a mechanism for adding particles to a current of cleaning liquid free of particles to form the cleaning medium entering the reactor, which are supplied with recovered particles from the cleaning medium leaving the reactor.

The water system is configured such that biocide treated water also flows to one or more components of the water system that are positioned upstream of the electrode arrangement.

摘要: A process and system for indirect seawater, and other contaminated waters, electrolysis are provided. The system includes a pressure retarded osmosis unit including a semipermeable membrane, and a high pressure electrolyzer unit including an anode and a cathode, with an osmotic agent solution being circulated at high pressure between the draw side of the pressure retarded osmosis unit and the electrolyzer unit. The osmotic agent solution is diluted in the PRO unit as molecular water is drawn into it from the feed solution side through the semipermeable PRO membrane, and it is concentrated in the electrolyzer unit as molecular water is removed by electrolysis. The PRO process supplies the electrolyzer with the required molecular water for electrolysis and maintains a high pressure of the electrolyzer feed.

摘要: A method of operating an electrochemical cell including introducing an aqueous solution into the electrochemical cell, applying a current across an anode and a cathode to produce a product, monitoring the voltage, dissolved hydrogen, or a condition of the aqueous solution, and applying the current in a pulsed waveform responsive to one of the measured parameters is disclosed. An electrochemical system including an electrochemical cell including an anode and a cathode, a source of an aqueous solution having an outlet fluidly connectable to the electrochemical cell, a sensor for measuring a parameter, and a controller configured to cause the anode and the cathode to apply the current in a pulsed waveform responsive to the parameter measurement is disclosed. Methods of suppressing accumulation of hydrogen gas within the electrochemical cell are also disclosed. Methods of facilitating operation of an electrochemical cell are also disclosed.

摘要: A waste water treatment system including an electrolysis treatment system and three membrane concentration systems. The electrolysis treatment system includes a first chamber that receives waste water and produces treated waste water, a second chamber that receives first recycled water and produces dilute acid discharge, and a third chamber that receives second recycled water and produces dilute caustic discharge. An anion exchange membrane separates the first chamber from the second chamber. A cation exchange membrane separates the first chamber from the third chamber. The membrane concentration system receives the treated waste water and produces a concentrated aqueous sodium sulfate product and a pure water product. A first thermal concentration system receives the dilute acid discharge and produces first recycled water and a concentrated acid product. The second thermal concentration system receives the dilute caustic discharge and produces second recycled water and a concentrated aqueous sodium sulfate product.

The shell structure further includes an inlet portion having an inlet for conducting a water flow to the inner space, and a reactor chamber in flow connection with the inlet portion, and preferably with an outlet portion. The inlet is arranged such that the water flow to the inner space is directed away from the reactor chamber so as to cause the water flow to mix by forcing the water flow to change direction before entering the reactor chamber. A water treatment apparatus having such a reactor, and the use of such a reactor are also disclosed.
