摘要： In a recirculating document handling apparatus for a copier, in which a set of document sheets are sequentially circulated from a stack thereof to the imaging station of the copier and back to the stack, and in which selectable inverting apparatus is provided for inverting or not inverting the document sheets as they are being so circulated and before they are returned to the stack, the latter comprises a large diameter inverting roller adjacent the downstream side of the imaging station, normally rotated in a first direction, and selectably rotated in the reverse direction, and a repositionable wedge-shaped first sheet guide provides in a first position, a document sheet first path from said imaging station around the outside of said inverting roller and towards the stack with the inverting roller driven in the first direction, and said first guide being repositionable to a second position, in coordination with said reverse rotation of said inverting roller in which a document sheet is guided in a second path around the inside of said inverting roller (between the inverting roller means and the imaging station) and then to the outside of the inverting roller, the reverse rotation of the inverting roller being sufficient to rotate the trail edge of a document sheet in this second path past a second guide means adapted to allow the trail edge of the document sheet to flip relative thereto so that upon re-reversal of the inverting roller the document sheet is fed toward the stack trail edge first.

摘要： A media transport system for transporting a media sheet in a marking device includes an entrance drive assembly, an exit drive assembly and a vacuum generator that applies a vacuum force to the media sheet to form a wide, flat printing zone. The entrance drive assembly receives and transports the media sheet in a process direction by contacting top and bottom surfaces of the media sheet, thereby exerting an entrance drive force on the media sheet. The exit drive assembly receives and transports the media sheet by contacting the top and bottom surfaces of the media sheet, thereby exerting an exit drive force on the media sheet. The vacuum force is applied to the media sheet in an area of the media sheet between the entrance drive assembly and the exit drive assembly. The vacuum force on the media sheet acts in a vacuum force direction substantially normal to the process direction. The vacuum force is set such that the entrance drive force and the exit drive force in the process direction each exceed the vacuum force acting in the vacuum force direction.

摘要： Apparatus is provided for forming an envelope capable of containing sheet material therein having a width equal to the width of the envelope by performing the steps of: feeding a sheet having a width and a length from a tray in a predetermined direction; folding the sheet across its width into a single fold to form first and second flaps, each flap having a width equal to the width of the sheet; pressing the first and second flaps together; and applying an adhesive tape over ends of the sheet to secure the first and second flaps together to form an envelope having an internal width at least the same as the width of the sheet, the adhesive tape completely forming the ends of the envelope. An insert sheet can be folded and placed between the first and second flaps prior to pressing the flaps together and, when a portion of the second flap which extends beyond the first flap is folded over the first flap prior to applying the adhesive tape thereto, the application of the adhesive tape will completely seal the insert material within the envelope so that the sealed envelope will be outputted "ready-to-mail".

摘要： In a system of plurally recirculating a set of document sheets for precollated copying wherein the document sheets are repeatedly individually fed seriatim from the bottom of an overlying stack thereof for copying with registration and returned to the top of the stack for restacking in a tray having a support surface, a rear guide and two edge guides, an improvement is disclosed that includes a straight ramp attached to one of the edge guides so that document sheets returned to the support surface will lie flat against the edge guide and thereby provide a positive registration position along the junction between the ramp and the rear guide thereby reducing the possibility of mis-registration due to bending of the document sheets during feeding and recirculation.

摘要： In a document handling apparatus for registered feeding of document sheets to the imaging station of a copier with a document imaging station transport, and a document sheet acquisition and initial registration system for feeding document sheets to the document imaging station transport, the improvement wherein said document sheet acquisition and initial registration system includes a sheet inversion path with a sheet inverting roller and spaced plural sheet retaining belts partially wrapped around the inverting roller to provide separate document sheet lead edge capturing nips therewith, and to provide a non-slip document feeding path when a document is held between the plural belts and the roller, and with apparatus for mounting a central one of the plural belts differently from the other belts for centrally engaging a document sheet in a registration nip with the central belt prior to engagement of a document sheet in the capture nips of the other belts. Preferably the document imaging station transport includes a document imaging transport belt extending around the inverting roller to form the operative outer surface thereof against which document sheets are held by the plural belts, and the registration nip of the central belt registers the lead edge of the document sheet to this document imaging transport belt by providing a moving capture nip into which document sheets are driven by the document sheet acquisition and initial registration system at a slightly faster, coordinated, speed than the document imaging transport belt, and buckled thereagainst.

摘要： An ink cartridge for an ink jet printer has an ink supply in a housing, a printhead fixedly attached thereto, and an interface seal between the housing and printhead. The ink is contained in an absorbent material in the housing which is partitioned from the printhead assembly by a housing wall having a vent and an ink outlet. The ink flow path from the housing outlet to the printhead inlet is produced by a recess in the outer surface of the housing wall covered by the interface seal. The seal is a porous member having a thermosetting adhesive layer on one side thereof. The porous member has a slot therethrough, and the adhesive is the type not attacked by the ink. The surface of the porous member with the adhesive is bonded to the housing wall. The thermosetting adhesive moves through the porous member and bonds to the printhead surface containing the ink inlet to the housing wall, when the adhesive is cured. The printhead ink inlet is of similar size and aligned with the porous member slot, so that the thermosetting adhesive assists in the attachment of the printhead assembly to the housing and concurrently provides the fluid seal between the housing and the printhead assembly.

摘要： A printing machine of the type in which liquid ink is deposited on a recording medium for printing gray scale images. The printing machine includes a printhead having ink ejecting nozzles of different sizes. Nozzles of the same size are arranged in groups and groups of nozzles are offset from one another. Ink drops of one group are deposited at locations corresponding to the points of a grid and ink drops of another group are deposited at locations corresponding to points not on the grid. Gray scale printing is achieved by the variation in drop size produced by different groups of nozzles as well as offsetting nozzles of one or more groups of nozzles from a reference group of nozzles printing on the points of a grid.
